Would you eat smoked mackerel fillets Use by 5/01/14. The fresh kind that come in a vacuum pack? I'm on a diet, had my dinner and I am starving! These are the healthiest closest to plan option! Otoh, a wee bout of food poisoning would guarantee a weight loss! (Joking)Wink

yes!

Theknacktoflying · 10/01/2014 20:44

Yes - my family Re getting haddock tomorrow with a use by date of 7/1.

There is nothing that can contaminate the meat if vacuum sealed

KeepTryin · 10/01/2014 20:48

Yey! I'm so happy! Confused
I feel like the fact it's smoked gives it extra long life.
Thanks!

was It all okay? I am in a similar situation with Tesco sweet cured smoked mackerel strips. Vacuum packed unopened and kept in the cold drawer of the fridge. 10 days past UBD. Smell test?

Broadswordcalling · 20/10/2022 23:33

It's a big ask that question - given that the thread was written 8 and a half years ago 😂

Marcipex · 20/10/2022 23:34

Hell no

TerfQueen · 20/10/2022 23:34

It's especially funny given the thread title.Grin

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 21/10/2022 00:32

I want this thread to become a beacon for all mumsnetters. Zombie Mackerel needs to be a new buzz phrase along with penis beakers and pombears.

Absolutely brilliant. Best thread I've read today

VeniVidiWeeWee · 21/10/2022 00:43

Since the OP never came back it's safe to assume they died of food poisoning.

Needmorelego · 21/10/2022 00:47

How do people find these old threads? By Googling "am I gonna die if I eat this?" or something?
Most bizarre.

imsanehonest · 21/10/2022 00:51

I couldn't believe PPs were saying 'yes' to eating 8-years-out-of-date mackerel, till I saw the comment about the date 🤣 Thought 'damn that must be good vacuum packing'...

Zombie mackerel 😆

I suppose we could try to see if she's still around ... @KeepTryin ?

JjQs · 24/10/2022 20:05

after A quick smell test I heated the zombie mackerel in foil in the oven till piping it hot and have consumed with pickled beetroot. Currently happy to not have wasted it. Wish me luck.😬
