Trivial ish, broken zip on mil wedding dress

Yesterday I tried on mil's 45 year old wedding dress - before trying it on we joked it would be too small and she said if it didn't fit dd (2) could have it for dress up.

I tried it on - it didn't fit, took it off, went to do up the zip and a tooth came out and the zip came off.

I got dressed went to tell mil and dd came running by shouting poo mummy so I put it down sorted her out etc and in short left without telling mil I broke it.

What do I do now? I don't think I can phone her and say I broke it forgot to tell you, do I leave it? Ask to look at it again and then "break" it again?

It's really playing on my mind! Also haven't said anything to dp about it :(

I'd just get a new zip put in. Tell you MIL that it broke when you tried the dress on, I expect it was a metal zip, and these can become a bit gungy over time.
Where is the dress now?? is it at your house or not?

Didn't think about getting a new zip!!!

It's at mils house but it would be easy to explain I broke it so got a new one much easier than just saying a few days later :)

She isn't sentimental about it or anything so that's good :)

Just be honest, say you felt awful about will get it fixed pronto!
