i have a friend who is a single mum, she has been told by her evil boss that she has to work christmas day 10 til 2 she has no one to watch her 5 year old son but her boss has said either work it or your sacked. does anyone know what rights she has?

If it is a normal working day for her, then yes she must work unless leave is granted.

There are no special protections for any family members (whether parent, child, carer, whatever) for any public holiday including Christmas.

When did she apply for leve? Why was it turned down?
