Please help - very sad sitution re lost bear

I have namechanged as am about to give lots of personal info.

DTD1 was stillborn in 2009. DTD2 was born alive, and is fine.

A dear, dear friend of mine bought DD one of those name a star gift sets, to remember her twin sister. Star was named Bethany after her twin sister, and Bethany bear (which came with the star set), is her very favourite toy.

We have just come back from holiday, and the bear didn't come back with us. I've emailed the hotel and they've not seen it. DD thought we had lost her there, but DH and I had managed to convince ourselves that we hadn't taken her in the first place - neither of us can remember seeing her on the holiday at all. Sadly, she is not here, so must have been lost in transit - maybe at the airport or taxi etc.

She is a smallish (maybe 20cm high) pink bear with a relief star on her foot. She's pretty battered and dusty. I don't really want to buy another set, as I'm not sure what we'd do with the star, but also I don't think we could pass a new one off as Bethany Bear.

I will try and contact the airports (KL and Hanoi - we live in KL) and Air Asia, but it's a long shot.

I don't suppose anyone happens to have a used and battered bear like this, do they?

I went straight to our toy box. But ours is brown, battered but definatly wouldn't pass. Sorry.

Ohh the new one you could put throught the washing machine a couple of times and the tell DD she went to a Spa on her way back from holiday

I'd have to sort of distress it too, it's more that its fur is matted than the cleanliness. Would a washing machine do that, do you think?

I think we have one of these, I sitting waiting for my car to be serviced but will go through our HUGE box of cuddlies wen I get home. I know dd wouldn't mind especially when she hears your story

I lost my DS favourite cuddly. He was so worn he looked like a rag so no-one would have rescued him. So that Christmas I sourced a new one, put him in a special bag and said that Father Christmas and the elves had rescued him and made him as good as new. My DS accepted this. Now "new" cuddly is eaten on 1 ear and needs a good wash :) Back to normal.

Ah. I have a problem.

We live in Malaysia, and there are odd shipping/duty regulations here. You cannot buy toys from amazon/ebay etc. and have them sent here. I'm not sure if you can buy fro Ebay US and get shipped anywhere else, presumably so?

Any advice on roughing the bear up? Lots of washes and tumble dries?

Any thoughts on how best to make it appear?

Okay, DD says we definitely have one but I haven't had a chance to get to the bottom of the toy box due to urgent work taking over. PM me your address and I'll find her tomorrow/Monday and get her sent ASAP. This one may be a little rough around the edges due to loving! Maybe once it is posted you could get a postcard send to DD from teddy saying he/she is at a spa being made pretty and will be back soon.

To matt it up you may need ot wet him and put him in something like a tight leg and rub him up and down a towel.

Their was lovely thread on here about a toy mouse who had been lost.
I think it ended with mneters from all over the world sending postcards from the mouse on its adventure to get back home.
The mouse was 'found' on the doorstep one morning carrying a mini suitcase.

Tatty Ratty might help. It's a fab book about a lost rabbit and how he come home good as new.

Not heard back from the lovely blueberry yet but she did sound very busy.
