Public and private and promotional and separating them all

Oh cock I really don't know what to do now. I've got a blog that was supposed to be sort of promotional/professional but seems to be more a selection of random rantings. I've got two Facebook pages, partly on the grounds that the not-quite-inlaws have taken to Facebook and I'm not wild about them being exposed to the amount of swearing, photographs of people's arses, old-mate personal gossip and hardline political shit that makes up most of my usual Facebook page.
And now some stuff has happened in a professional sort of way and I have a lot of new pals who use Facebook (and Twitter and blogs) very cleverly for self-promotion and are very nicely and supportively linking to me and I never used to be all that bothered about the fact that I use my 'real' name for work purposes but now I feel uneasy. I think I am a bit old to understand this stuff properly - do I need to set up a whole new set of accounts or just tidy up the existing ones (eg at least put a flattering profile pic on Facebook instead of the current ropey one...)

I have gone through all my Facebook friends and grouped them: work / family / parents / acquaintances / friends. I'm then very careful when I post something that I include the group I want to see it - my cousins can see things I wouldn't particularly want my parents to see.

It's a faff though.

Hmm, that might work, sort of :) thanks.

Oh, and today's lesson: if your facebook profile pic is a pratty one and you don't have a naice professional one, replace it with a cartoon, picture of your cat, graphic or something.
Then little bastards making posters will not use hideously unflattering pics of you without asking.

In my Facebook account, I have my personal page (friends and family) and my "business" pages (blogs, etc). Business stuff goes on business pages and only add friends if you don't mind them seeing your personal page. You can set up as many business pages as required. Why would you need to have business acquaintances posting on your personal wall? x
