Who reads our blogs?

I'm fairly new to blogging and started really as an outlet for my love of writing. I can see from my stats that people are reading it, but I have little idea who they are and while some posts get lots of reads and a few comments, others seem to slip by unnoticed but I don't know why.

How do people find my blog and what can I do to give my posts the best chance of getting read?

Just read some of your posts.I'll be following you. Also a teacher with four year old and baby.Love the post where you explain why you are writing the blog-the bit about the life you have chosen and taking a moment to notice it.Sometimes we get so caught up in it that we don't notice it.It's in these quiet moments when the kids are asleep that I tend to reflect.Tonight I am very content!I try to keep a diary so that I can remember the intensity and the joy of these early years but I end up being overcome with emotion or more often than not exhaustion!

I'd suggest, if you haven't already done so, installing Google Analytics and monitoring your visitor stats. Perhaps the traffic sources and SE queries will give you a better idea of who is visiting you - and why.

For me (I blog about knitting and crochet), I can see that I get visitors via Ravelry (a knitting and crochet site) and Pinterest and that people are googling for flower and amigurumi patterns.

I agree with the Google Analytics suggestions - it helps to know where your visitors are coming from, then you can concentrate on finding new readers there.

Where do you 'advertise' your blog?

MmeLindor · 08/07/2013 15:52

oh, and just linked to your blog on Twitter, cause I had been planning to write about pink for girls.

Thanks MmeLindor. I think that's what I'm asking - how do you advertise your blogs?

How do I use google analytics?

I advertise on Twitter and Facebook - but mainly Twitter.

I have some info here that might be useful

I agree that Twitter and Facebook are the best social media networks for PR.

If you can find a relavent blog directory, then you may get traffic from a listing there.

Interacting with people in forums or via website/blog comments can also attract visitors.

If you haven't already done so, start working on your SEO. Ensure your page titles, URLs and image alt tags are all relavent and concise. If you are very popular or suitably niche, then you should get traffic from search engine queries.

You could do some guest blogging as well (or exchange guest posts)
