40th Birthday

If your invited to a 40th Birthday party, would you bring a gift or just a card.

We've been invited to party (for person we haven't actually seen, socially since last summer), so I was thinking of just giving a card...

Any ideas...?

Card and a bottle of wine? I think a present is in order TBH.

We're in a similar position and have decided to give a Next voucher (we know they like Next). I think a gift is in order for a 40th, if you don't feel close to them maybe you could politely decline the party?
