We are going to a wedding of some casual friends this weekend and they have requested money as a gift. What is an acceptable amount? Thank youSmile

It depends on your finances. For me, I would probably give £20 for a casual acquaintance, £40 for good friends.

Give what your happy with, don't break the bank.

I was told possibly from one of the many wedding books I read when planning mine you should give the amount you'd expect to pay for the meal you get, but not sure how trues that is.

I agree it depends on your finances. We were married about 3 years ago and as it was all a bit short notice (took 3 months from getting engaged to wedding) we asked for John Lewis vouchers as we didn't have time to set up a list but thought people would prefer to get vouchers than cash (only if people wanted to know what we wanted). I'd say the average we got from a person/couple was £20 - 30 or so. We got some less, some more. We didn't really mind tbh as we were just happy to have them there.

I really don't agree with couples asking for money as gifts, ( recent family wedding, asked for money for honeymoon!) so I only gave £25 but would probably have spent £100 on a gift, or vouchers, just my feeling!

If I'm invited to an evening do, I normally give £20. For an all day wedding we normally give £50. For my sister's wedding we gave £60, would have lived to give her a bit more especially as I was bridesmaid but we unfortunately couldn't afford more...

I usually give about £60.

I usually give £40.

There is no right amount. Depends entirely on what you can afford, whether there are costs involved in going to the wedding (such as long journey, over night accommodation etc), how well you know them. Gifts I have been given for weddings ranged from £10-£200. Each one was gratefully received and I felt everyone had given generously for their own circumstances.
