Well... that was a little bit good, wasn't it?!

As I said on the other thread I am a little gutted that the waiter didn't say Le Bear Polar.

FrankelInFoal · 01/01/2014 23:09

Louise Brealey (Molly) has just tweeted that the snog took four takes Envy Envy Envy Envy

FrankelInFoal · 02/01/2014 08:35

Loving this picture!

RabbitRabbit78 · 02/01/2014 08:56

Shamelessly place marking.

WhomessweetWhomes · 02/01/2014 13:22

Definitely need to watch it again! I thought it was fab in many ways, but certainly not flawless. Didn't like the waiter thing or Sherlock's bomb-diffusing gag. I thought they were both very out of character. Also, the actual terrorist plot storyline was a bit weak, but I suppose that's because it was secondary to the re-establishing of Sherlock's life and relationships. I found the Anderson thing a bit ott too. Loved the different theories about the fall though, esp the Moriarty one Grin!

FrankelInFoal · 02/01/2014 14:22

This needs to go in our video archive

qazxc · 02/01/2014 15:54

This has reawaked my Cumberlust. Am i particularly sad that i fall asleep listening to Benedict reading poetry to me (ode to a nightingale by Keats available on Itunes, in case you were wondering)?

qazxc · 02/01/2014 16:06

He is better at everything!

FrankelInFoal · 02/01/2014 17:50

John Finnemore on Twitter last night:

@JohnFinnemore: That waiter sounded strangely familiar. I wonder how handy he is with an egg-whisk?

Love this picture

qazxc · 02/01/2014 20:16

Love this

satsumagirl · 02/01/2014 21:35

Ermahgawd the bit where he smashed through the window and then did the flippy coat, hair fluff and sex stare is the. Most. Erotic. Thing. I . Have. Ever. Seen.

Fricking Norah Grin

FrankelInFoal · 02/01/2014 22:05

I can't believe Louise Brealey only went for 4 takes - I'd have been doing my best to wreck as many (after the kiss, obv) takes as possible Grin

WhomessweetWhomes · 02/01/2014 22:52

Yep Satsumagirl it certainly was! Going to be re-watching that bit a few times!

DesperateHousewife21 · 03/01/2014 07:11

The new series has reignited something. I cant stop looking at pics and thinking of THAT kiss.

He really is a v sexy man.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 03/01/2014 11:22

Whomes, I agree with many of your points. I thought the bomb-diffusing gag was mindfully cruel, where generally Sherlock's 'cruel' acts actually arise from his incomprehension. The terrorist plot storyline was weak, and derivative of V for Vendetta. I could not buy Anderson's character transformation.

I also thought John coming round – through variously hitting and headbutting Sherlock –was a case of substituting 'hilarious' slapstick violence for character-driven behaviour. Both the leads, given some good writing about persuading John/John gradually thawing and forgiving, are good enough actors to have played this sort of thing beautifully. The way it was done felt like a waste of terrific acting talent.

I also loved the Moriarty fall theory (I will miss Moriarty!) and I thought the waiter thing was charming and funny and was played by Benedict with just the right lightness of tone with undercurrents of desperation and wounded pride.

Amanda A was wonderful. I suspect she may turn out to be a Bad Lot though.

Anyone else think Benedict looked younger here than in Series 2? I think it may have been the overall slightly lighter tone; in Series 2 he often seemed to be required to be Serious and even a bit Pompous, which for whatever reason made him look and seem older.

WhomessweetWhomes · 03/01/2014 12:09

Yes I agree about Anderson too. I think overall the tone was a little bit over-excited and crowd-pleasery. Definitely playing to the armies of female fans by finding sneaky ways of letting Sherlock snog people when he wouldn't really Grin ! Not that I'm exactly complaining about that... but I sort of hope it settles down a bit next episode.

FrankelInFoal · 03/01/2014 12:14

I'm sure Steven Moffat said they deliberately played up the comedy elements for the first episode and that things will be back to normal for Ep2.

My take on the bomb joke was that Sherlock genuinely didn't know what to do at the start. When he saw the off switch he thought to himself "Here's an opportunity to get John to forgive me." I don't think he saw it is a j

FrankelInFoal · 03/01/2014 12:16

Argh!

I don't think Sherlock saw it as an opportunity to play a joke on John. It was his sociopathic logic that said "now I can get what I want - forgiveness"

I agree that Mary may well turn out to be a bad 'un.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 03/01/2014 12:36

I hope it settles down too! It was somewhat similar to the first episode of series 2, where they contrived a very unbelievable situation so that Sherlock would go to Buckingham Palace naked but for a sheet and oops, the sheet would come off. Pure titillation and a bit beneath the cast and writers IMO, not to mention beneath a lot of the viewers.

Frankel, interesting reading. I don't think I agree though. If anything I think he'd have switched it off, then showed off to John about having done it, rather than manipulated him into forgiveness. Would have been similar to his earlier behaviour, when he starts explaining, in a quite show-offy way, how he faked his death and John says 'I don't care how! I just want to know why.'

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/01/2014 19:26

Just marking my place. Have always been a huge fan of BC but hadn't really had a total moment.

Until the kiss. Gulp.

LetUsPrey · 03/01/2014 20:07

Have watched it once or twice or several bazillion times, particularly this one. Just look - he doesn't take his eyes off her the whole time. Sexiest kiss ever IMVHO

It's almost perfect. The thing to make it perfect would be to replace Molly/Louise with me Grin

If I'm being completely honest though, I suspect I'd have been a giggling/falling over mess. Only one way to find out though .... Grin
