To answer my own question: yes - sadly. Rupert Campbell-Black from Jilly Cooper's 'Riders'.

And, even more disturbingly, Pierre Bondurant from James Ellroy's 'American Tabloid'

Did you see the TV dramatisation of Riders? What were they thinking?
For me, Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing.
I think I had a soft spot for Dick (!) from Famous Five when I was little too.

Ugh, yes, unfortunately. It nearly wrecked my fantasy forever.

I liked Dick too. No shame in that.

Athos from The Three Musketeers. Brooding, mysterious, damaged, betrayed.

I even put forward the suggestion when pg that we name our DS Athos. DH said 'what? you mean like the mountain?'
