Ideas to break up the text on a blog

I'm seriously new to this and looking over some comments on others questions I can see that maybe I need to break up the text on my blog a bit more as my posts are quite long. I'm finding it hard to find relevant photos for each post that are royalty free etc and just wondered if anyone had any layout suggestions or what anyone thought of the need to break up the content. Would also like content feedback if anyone wants to offer it.I don't really want to put too many personal pics up there if possible. Thank you !!

I, like you, don't really go in for using pictures on my blog, especially of my kids (no slur on those who do, personal preference).

Having looked at a couple of posts, it's nothing that can't be fixed within using interesting subheads. Have a look at this post on me blog.

I haven't used any images, nor have I used irritatingly short paragraphs (they can make readers feel like they're in a hail of wordy gunfire), but it's a proven tactic to use subheadings. They draw the reader's eye down the page and highlight that they haven't got far until the next break. We are a lazy generation!

I use lots of recordings, mainly because it is an effective way of giving children the opportunity to listen to the words. They're all different but 'spaniels at the river' or Maggie and the squirrel' are good online examples.

There's always room for subheads. As a rough example:
