So many ideas, where do you start?

So, I've done some reading, played with wordpress and suddenly got it. The trouble is, I have so many ideas...where do you start?

I want to create a blog which has some static pages with information on key topics - SEN legislation, Statementing, useful resources, etc., then blog posts about the more detailed aspects of SEN.

As an example, I would have static pages about Statementing - a parent page with an introduction, with child pages that break down the process in more detail.

I would then have blog posts, which focus on key areas which have been contentious or disputed by Local Authorities. These posts might detail the general assumption held by the Local Authority, the legislation which has been relied on by other parents at tribunal, and links to the decision.

Then, I would link the blog post into the static page.

My question is, do you just start, publish and build, or do you build the blog with lots of content, then publish it and add to it?

The traditional way is to just start and add to the blog, but I have seen a few bloggers who have first built their blog and then published.

It does make the blog look more professional from the start, and may help get you readers.

I'd put the basics into place - the static pages and perhaps one or two blog posts on each topic.

Great idea for a blog. Have you tried drawing out a mind map of where everything will go? WP is good for creating 'categories' so your blog posts can be easily sorted.

I have a mental mindmap, 2under2blog, but when I sketch it out on paper I get frustrated that my sketch looks messy

Thanks for the encouragement...I just need to do it, then see how it looks, I think. Plus get over that feeling that no-one would be interested anyway.

I think everyone feels like that about their blog, until you do it and see how many hits you're getting. I firmly believe there's a place for a blog on every single topic!

And even if there are some out there already, just focus on doing it better or adding extra value.

If you're nervous about stalling, try loading yourself up with a few blog posts to get you through the first couple of weeks. Once you get going, there'll be countless little niggles that you'll need to work on (plugins, design etc) so having pre-loaded blog posts takes the pressure off you to produce in the early days.
