We thought you might like to have a look at a video clip from Mumsnet BlogFest, where Miriam González Durántez kicked off the day with a fantastically inspiring opening speech.

Her subjects ranged from motherhood and domestic dramas; to feminism and the debt she feels she owes to her mother's generation; to the bond she felt with the women and girls she met in Tanzania, during a recent campaigning trip.

She's an active Mumsnetter and here, she very movingly thanks you lot for supporting her decision not to be a typical 'Leader's Wife'. The audio's a bit ropey, but do have a look - it's lovely!

Sam Cam has a fine arts degree and worked at Smythson since 1996. David wasn't an MP until 2001.

She stayed on through a sale to private equity in 2005 (famously a time for cutting unnecessary costs) and through a further sale of the business in 2008. She appears to have presided over the introduction of some successful products.

On what grounds do you judge that she is of limited ability? Do you think the Creative Directors of Burberry, Fendi or The Folio Society are also of limited ability?

If you know the sector well and judge the work she produced to be of poor quality, fair enough. But otherwise, I'm not sure what your opinion is based on?

SC is certainly not my specialist subject, and neither are overpriced leather goods, though I have been acquainted with a few Creative Directors. Mainly hairdressers. She appears vacuous, and an arts degree from Bristol Poly doesn't impress me much. I sure she is a wonderful wife and mother. She could do more with her hair, that fringe is unbecoming.
I do rather object to the landed gentry being portrayed as role models for no good reason. I am aware I am sounding bitchy, it's late and I'm tired, and in the spirit of the sisterhood, will step down on this one Smile

Spockster put it bitchily but she speaks an essential truth. TBH many intelligent women on here could do that job with their hands tied behind their backs, better even. But we would never get the chance.
