I Don't Get Tags.

Well I sort of get them. I know they are keywords, linked to what the post is about. I even get the difference between categories and tags I think.

What I am unsure of is, does a tag have to be one word, or words that are together, like 'pain' or 'back pain' or can it be/should it sometimes be a sentence, or several words?

for example, one of my posts is about returning to work while in medication and with back pain which is now a disability. Do I put the tags in seperately as 'work' 'back pain' 'disability'. or would I put 'work and disability' as one tag? and 'work and back pain'.

Have I even explained myself properly?

And another question, which might need to be a seperate thread - how do I highlight the key words in the sentences, to make them bold and stand out for google spidery thingies to pick up, you know the whole SEO stuff, but so they are only bold for SEO/searches and no bold in the post itself? You get me?

this is soooooo complicated. And I am not even doing a self hosting site.

mme I agree. what's the point of writing if it is stilted and not as queenmaeve said, organic.

If I were to, at some point get someone to set it up for me, would it be relatively easy to then manage it from there?

I am not too concerned about traffic right now, I don't have much, but I have enough people coming through, and returning to make me feel like I am not awful at it. I am only just learning what my style of writing is, having not really done any real 'creative' writing before, my writing has usually been to specification, or formal reports, with a purpose give to me. Blog writing has no boundaries and that has caught me somewhat by surprise as there is no-one to tell me what the purpose is!

But in time, once I get it sounding more professional, I will want it looking more professional, some of the blogs I have seen look, and sound amazing. I don't have as much to write as many fantastic bloggers.

Please do :)

Yes, once it is set up then it is just like using wordpress.com, except you have a whole host of add-ins that you can utilise.

I just had a look and the highest traffic for a key word I've had was Pokemon Cards! I did a post about what a nightmare they were a good while ago and it still gets hits. So there you go, get writing about Pokemon Grin

MmeLindor · 27/10/2012 14:34

Biggest search terms

house of lords

everything will be all right in the end

salt and caramel

salmon couillibiac

None of which I wrote with SEO in mind ;)

I might go back and start tweaking SEO on some of my more popular posts and see if I get more google hits on them.

Pavlovthecat · 27/10/2012 20:32

I don't think any of blogs are even close to SEO friendly! I suspect most people will be ending up in my blog by accident from google Grin

Recipes seem to get big hits. I think I read somewhere that cookery blogs automatically get good traffic. How many times do we google ingredients or recipes? I don't really have many recipes on my blog, but one is for Mint Aero cheesecake and it seems to get hits every other day. So it could be an idea to include recipes, if of course it fits with your blog.

My biggest hits have definitely been my Friday rants - all my nice posts which are feel good get next to nothing but as soon as I get angry or miserable I get loads!!!!!
