if I send a message to a friend of a friend will it go in their "other" message inbox?

I have messaged someone on FB that I have 2 mutual friends with. I don't particularly want to add her as a friend, but wanted her to get the message.

Slightly concerned that it has gone in to the "other" part of her message inbox as I am not her friend. Or does this only happen for people who you have no mutual friends with?!

Can anyone shed any light on this?

i have sent messages to friends of friends and they have received them and rsponded. if that is any ehlp
