I have given the blog a revamp and would appreciate (gentle) feedback

This was long overdue - have been meaning to do it for months and never got around to it.

It is very different to the old blog layout (and my pretty lake pic has gone, but I felt I had left that part of my life behind).

What do you think? www.saltandcaramel.com

Like it. Might just be me, but find the drop down FB and pinternet symbols a bit distracting.

Tee2072 · 17/09/2012 14:21

I like the layout, but I have to agree about the constantly dropping down FB/Twitter/P thing. It's really distracting.

Looks like your pics might be sorted as well?

MmeLindor · 17/09/2012 14:47

Yes, I tried to get that thing to stay put but it won't. Will try a different plug in.

Yes, the pics are sorted, of a fashion. I need to go through every post and add a featured image separately, which is a pain. I have only gone back 3 or 4 pages, cause I reckoned that no one would scroll back so far.

I love it. Have you nixed the social dropdown - can't see it now?

DillyTante · 19/09/2012 20:03

I like the new layout, but not mad keen on your banner - sorry. Would prefer a bit of colour.

DillyTante · 19/09/2012 20:05

Sorry, that came out a bit short looking! Was trying not to come over as critical. I love your blog, and definitely like the new layout.

Gusthetheatrecat · 19/09/2012 21:07

I haven't seen this blog before, and am v. pleased to come across it, as it looks really useful! I don't know what it looked like before, but functionally I like the layout- it's not too busy, and is easy to navigate around.

I am afraid I'm another one who doesn't like the banner much. It jars a bit, for me - too square, and not very professional looking at the moment. (That sounds very harsh, which I'm sorry about.) I think something similar but simpler would look much better: perhaps just a simple image of salt and caramel, wider so it goes across most of the screen on a normal screen, with simpler text over it, would look fresher and more modern.

MmeLindor · 19/09/2012 21:32

You are all right - I don't like the logo either but it was a quick fix. I tried adding colour but then the name didn't show up well. And too much focus on the caramel made me worry people would think it was a food blog.

Am going to think about what to do, and definitely think a banner would look better. If anyone has other ideas, do chuck them my way.

I did get rid of the Social Media icons, Kate. They are now lurking in the sidebar.

Thanks all, great to get honest feedback.

Banner now done and I have made the background colours darker.

Or was the lighter colour better?

Much prefer the new banner :)

MmeLindor · 21/09/2012 23:05

Me too, dilly. It was a right pain to get it right. Am not great with photoshop but got there in the end.

Thanks for the feedback. It really helps
