DB and I are not especially close, so it would be obvious that's why I've contacted him rather than just a casual mention in conversation. do I drop him a text to say "oi you muppet did you know you missed it?" which might give him a chance to redeem himself, or do I just butt out?

DM's bday was about 4 weeks ago but she only mentioned it to me at the w/end.

Depends. Are you on friendly terms even if not close? If so I would find an excuse to call about something and happen to drop into the conversation what your DM did for her birthday (if anything). Gives him an opportunity to go 'Oh crap'.

Otherwise, I'd leave it.

I assume your mum has spoken to your brother in the last 4 weeks, so could have said something to him herself? In which case I think she's hoping that now she's mentioned it to you, you will remind him and he will acknowledge it in some way.

So yes, you should send the text.

PrimrosePath · 11/09/2012 16:59

Depends on your relationship - I could send the 'you muppet' text to my sister and not cause a family bust up. If SIL sent the same text to DH, however ...

Shybairns · 11/09/2012 16:59

4 weeks is a bit late for him to redeem himself!

You could text him. Wouldn't hurt.

Steer well clear tbh.

CointreauVersial · 11/09/2012 17:02

I'd send the text.

He is a muppet.

SnapesOnAPlane · 11/09/2012 17:05

4 weeks? There's no chance of a "Sorry, Mum, the florist cocked up the order, sorry it's late!"
There's NO chance of redeeming himself, you're only going to make a plonker of yourself by texting JUST to tell him he missed it. Even if he is a muppet, you're only going to cause friction when there's no need, what good would it do?

DestinationUnknown · 11/09/2012 17:32

Ooh quite evenly split but Snapes you sum it up perfectly and I'm going t leave it. Thanks everyone!
