Nursery fall

DD1 returned from nursery with a grazed head and cut lip from falling off climbing rope. They explained how it had happened & gave me accident report form. I understand these things happen and was fine about it at the time.

Now I've been thinking there has been a complete change of staff recently and I 'm worried maybe the new ones aren't as careful over supervision. Also I'm wondering if the climbing activity was really age appropriate (as I would give DD 1-to-1 supervision doing something like this and I know this can't be expected at nursery).

Should I say something about my concerns or am I being PFB?

How old is dd1?

Rubirosa · 10/08/2012 13:18

Is it a climbing frame in the nursery garden? Would you really want them to stop your DD playing there?

Children fall sometimes. Depending on your DD's age there might have been 4-8 children being watched by each staff member so they cannot prevent all accidents.

DD1 could give one to one supervision the slip if she spotted something to climb.

I wouldn't judge to harshly on one incident.

If it's an isolated incident, then you are probably worrying unnecessarily.

But if you no longer trust the nursery to a) minimise risks sensibly and b) deal with incidents properly and c) inform parents honestly, then this is a strong indicator that you should start to look for a different one.

Sorry DD1 is 20 months (but quite little for her age!).

The frame was inside, and no I don't want them to stop her-she loves this sort of thing- she is very gung ho and I think that's part of it. I can just imagine her launching herself off and over balancing with no one there to grab her.

I think I am over thinking it a bit (and maybe have a bit of guilt that I wasn't there) as I do trust the nursery and it was a one off. I think I'll do nothing but if anything else happens I'll go in for a chat.

Thanks.
