Washing baby clothes before they're worn?

Hi, am I meant to wash baby clothes before they are worn?
Someone told me that I have to wash the new clothes I have in preparation from my little ones arrival, is this true?

You don't HAVE to, but if you want to then do :)

I have a load of new clothes in washing right now...I have done this with all DD's new baby things just because I think they feel nicer after a wash.

I never have, but neither child had many brand new clothes.

I saw a few programmes about the factories clothes are made in. I'm not sure if they wash them to my standards so I do. It's a huge part of my nesting period! Grin

Clothing manfacturing involves a lot of chemicals and isn't a clean process, so unless you'd let your newborn lay on the floor of a factory or play with dishwashing powder it's best to wash the clothes :) I'm sure most babies survive their clothes not being washed first but I think it's just a bit nicer to do it and they look sooo cute on the line

Do I use fabric conditioner for baby clothes or not?

I don't think you are really meant to, but our water is like concrete so I'd add a tiny bit :)

I add a little bit of fabric conditioner too...about a quarter of the normal 'dose'
