hello

we are thinking of moving to dorset and wanted some advice on the best areas (nice areas for families) to move to. We were initially thinking of the wimborne / merley area/north poole area . we have 2 children a 5 and a 7 year old. i think my husband will be looking to work in poole. can anyone recommend good primary schools which feed into good secondary schools. trying to get 2 places in the same school will be difficult i know. thank you very much !!

Hi,
We live in Christchurch so not quite close enough to advise on those areas/schools.

Perhaps try posting on Mumsnet local, though, for more responses?

DH and I both went to Corfe Hills in Corfe Mullen which is (or at least was then!) a good school. QE in Wimborne is pretty good as well.

It's the three tier system so feeder schools will be middle schools 9-13. You'll be looking for first schools for your DC. I think in the wimborne/ broadstone/Corfe mullen area they're all pretty good tbh, although hopefully someone will have more up to date specific information than me.

Hello lotti37
Merley First School might be suitable for your 5 and 7 year old.

We have 6yr old DS1 going into yr2, and a 4 yr old DS2 about to start reception.
Recent Ofsted is Outstanding. Merley First School is a little gem, off the beaten track with large private, tree lined fields. Even though it is on the outskirts of Wimborne, it actually comes under Poole. It is in the Corfe Hills pyramid, so will retain a 3 tier system, whilst the rest of Poole is disrupted by a move from 3 tier to 2 tier. Merly FS feeds into Broadstone Middle School and Allenbourn Middle School. From there, the secondary schools are Corfe Hills, Queen Elizabeth, or the Grammer schools. Corfe Hills might be deemed an ordinary secondary, but they got a couple into Oxbridge, so its not all Grammar or bust.
