DD found a 5 pound note in the street. I told her we should hand it in to the Police Station in case someone claims it. Now I am starting to wonder if this is the right thing to do.

Honestly if it was just £5 I'd keep it. Or at best I'd leave it in case the person realised quickly and came back (though more likely someone else would pick it up instead!)

Doesn't seem worth the effort of going out of your way to a police station, or the time/paperwork for the police in dealing with it. Yes I know £5 can be significant to some people, but it's very unlikely they'd end up getting it back either way. And if someone's that short of cash they should maybe be a bit more careful with it.
