Found something very disturbing on dp's pc

Just went on dp's pc (he leaves it on so I can print off it because the printer won't recognise my laptop) and I know I shouldn't but I looked in his file and saw some notes for a story he started writing a couple of years ago, mentioning violent murder and rape. Know he loves horror stories, Stephen King etc but is this something I should be worried about? We've been together 18 months, don't know if this means I shouldn't trust him, especially around my 7yo dd.

In what way does it 'mention' it?

worrywarty · 22/06/2012 17:47

Notes for how the story would go and there's notes for a briefly detailed scene where a man gets all genitalia cut off and just a line about one of the characters getting raped.

Please help, really worried

It's difficult - could he fancy himself as a horror writer?

worrywarty · 22/06/2012 18:03

Think he does, he's spoken about how he'd love to get a book published a few times but can you write that sort of stuff without being 'into' what you're writing?

Well I can understand why you are freaked out but lots of people read this sort of stuff without being "into it". I watch CSI and criminal minds and they are chock full of women being raped and murdered and it doesn't indicate any desire on my part to do that.

I think this sort of extremely violent crime writing / horror is v popular at the moment and so if he wants to write in that genre that's the sort of thing lots of people write about.

Can you talk to him about it? Like I say I can understand why you are freaked out but if he is a normal kind sort of a bloke and this is the only thing like this ever I think it more likely he is just trying to write a story in this genre than meaning he is a closet rapist or something.

Jux · 22/06/2012 18:29

As SardineQueen said, I don't think that just writing a story indicates perversion. I'm pretty sure Agatha Christie wasn't 'into' murder for instance.

Did you have some concerns about your dh's predilections or behaviour before you found this?

nickname5555 · 03/07/2012 02:32

I read and write graphic crime/murder stories for fun, I'm not a serial killer.

You're being ridiculous.

TouTou · 03/07/2012 03:07

I am a writer. I write all sorts of stuff that I certainly wouldn't want read out at the PTA meeting. Much of what I write is pretty damn disturbing as I love writing gothic horror type things (although hate watching stuff like that, I get too afraid.) Shock

I have also had women's erotica published. Do I want to be 'taken' against my will in a prison by an officer and a couple of big bad prisoners - handcuffs, nightstick and all? No, of course not! (or maybe...) The most I do with DH at the moment is climb on top now and again. But if your read what I'd had published you'd certainly think that this is what I wanted.

Please don't be worried. If otherwise he is a good egg and has a writing yen, he is just exploring writing styles.

TouTou · 03/07/2012 03:08

Sorry worrywarty, I don't want to dismiss this though. I think i read your post as being 18 years, not 18 months. Have you had any other indications of this being a problem?

differentnameforthis · 03/07/2012 03:16

can you write that sort of stuff without being 'into' what you're writing?

Well Stephen King isn't high school girl with telekinesis, or a possessed car any more than J K Rowling is a wizard.
