linkys, blog hops, competitions and themed weeks

Does any one have an experience of running these on your blog? I was wondering about doing one (and have ideas!) as I thought they might be fun and may increase traffic but was also wondering - are they lots of hard work? Do they really 'drive traffic' - I'm still very much a newbee blogger (2.5 months months 3400+ page views). If you run a 'giveaway' are any there legal issues??? Any experience or advice welcome...

Ive wondered myself, Id like to do a giveaway on my page too but didnt know the legalities of it.

I started a linky but no-one ever takes part! I keep doing it though because I enjoy doing it. Unless you have lots of blogging contacts I think it's difficult to get them off the ground. I'm not sure about traffic but if you get people to link to you it would certainly increase your backlinks. It could be hard work if lots of people take part and you want to try and visit all of their blogs, also you are committing yourself to hosting, say every week, so you need to be around to do it.
