Nearly locked in the gym!

I was at my local gym tonight, had a swim
And then sat in the steam room. Suddenly all the lights went out and I thought that's a bit odd - then my brain activated and I thought they are not closing are they!! I ran to reception in the dark in my swimsuit to find the three members of staff walking out and locking the door. I said 'what about me!'!! One girl said I did my pre close checks - not v well. I didn't really shout or get upset as I was in shock just put my clothes on and went home - felt a bit silly and like it was my fault. Now I am a bit miffed - WWYD next?

Wow that's scary!! I would have shit myself when the lights went out. I would make a complaint, they need to tighten up their procedures.

I would write a firm letter to the management notifying them of this appalling breach of basic H&S. Never mind checking that the steam room is empty prior to closing, surely they should know at all times whether someone was in there? What if you had passed out?

Omg! That's terrible!

Can't quite believe it happened. I think I will make a complaint tomorrow when I go in to the manager....... I guess I could have eaten from the vending machine Grin or used the phone/set off fire alarm to get out. I didn't have my mobile. I think my hubbie might have got worried for not for a couple of hours.....

They are lucky you alerted them! Imagine if you had have been locked him, I'm guessing they would be in serious trouble!

I would make a written complaint - as EcoLady says, what if someone had been passed out? Would they be undetected until the first person came to use the steam room the next morning?

Also, I would expect part of the locking up procedure in most businesses to involve setting a burglar alarm, so you'd most likely have set that off. Causing distress not only to you, but inconvenience to whoever has to subsequently check the gym.

Sorry to be harsh, but you didn't get locked in so no harm done to you and they're bound to have had a shock so will have revised their procedures and probably given the lax checker a good dressing down. So unlikely to happen to anyone else. Presumably they expect users to know what time they close and be getting ready to leave? Just let it go and have fun telling the story in the pub.
