I have a new blog, its an old blog really but I've recently picked it up again. Its more of a journal of my life. How do I find out if people are intrested? How do I get more people reading? How much detail do I put in?

I'm not sure what help or answers I'm expecting to get here but I thought I'd ask!

If I link here can anyone give me pointers? Or does that break rules?

Yes, link away. Not allowed on rest of MN but fine here

Depends what you want really. Do you want to be anonymous or not? How much detail of your private life you give away is up to you.

Getting readers - write good content first. Then start thinking about building readership via FB, twitter and MN.

addictediam · 10/05/2012 18:17

Well its here I'm not sure the content is any good or if it will be of interest to anyone, I guess its just my journal and other thoughts really?

cakeskidanotherramblings.blogspot.co.uk

Sorry, had the punctuation wrong! But Blogger says it doesn't exist.

addictediam · 10/05/2012 18:42

cakeskidsandotherramblings.blogspot.co.uk this time it should work!

Ohhh are you not allowed to post your blog on other parts of MN? Ive been posting mine when people have asked for a specific recipe Blush

Tee2072 · 10/05/2012 19:39

Now I can see it!

First of all, change the background colour and/or the font colour, it's very tiring and hard to read.

Other than that, actually, I think you're off to a good start!

Yes, BA, you can only promote your blog on the Blog board. It can/will be deleted if you put it elsewhere on MN.

addictediam · 10/05/2012 20:11

thanks tee, I've changed to a plain background.

how do you add an 'about me' section? the mumsnet guide says its on the 'lay out' page, but i just cant find it!

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 10/05/2012 20:22

I don't actually know how to use Blogger, so I don't know!

Tee2072 · 10/05/2012 20:26

I actually just started a Blogger Blog, since I do do this for a living and should probably know how to do this!

It is under Layout and then 'add a gadget' on the right hand side.

addictediam · 10/05/2012 20:29

lol, thanks. I didnt think to add a gadget. i'm not really computer savvy, but i'm slowly learning!

I really have to say, WordPress is so much better. I would switch if I were you!

MmeLindor. · 10/05/2012 21:37

Agree with Tee. WP is so much better than Blogger.

I used to say that Blogger was good for beginners, but WP is now so user friendly that I would advise on going straight for it.

I like the blog, love the photos. The only thing I would say (and this is a personal opinion so feel free to ignore) is that I would not put the same personal details and identifiable photos on there.

Many bloggers do and there is nothing wrong with it, but imo when I put my own face and name on my blog, it is my decision. Making that decision for a child, who may later object to this, is different.

addictediam · 11/05/2012 06:34

Thanks mme I thought I'd tried to use nicknames but that is only a recent thing, so I will go back through and edit older posts to take names out.
Thanks :)

I'm starting to see what you mean about restrictive. if I change to word presswill i loose all my posts so far? I've only got 3 followers will i loose them too? how do i swap now?

I only started using blogger because someone else was i didnt realise there was more than one place to go! [slightly thick emotocon!]

You can import your posts to WP, then write a post with the new blog url on it to redirect people to your new blog.

I have done it a few times and is fine. Since you are just restarting, I would do it now then you can build up followers there.
