Get a tattoo if your partner didn't like them

Thought I would get a taste of opinions on this one.

I have been seriously thinking about getting a tiger tattoo on my lower back with the words, strength, beauty & protection. It would be quite big but not a big roaring scary tiger. I would like an image that shows the real beauty these animals possess.

Anyway, my partner is not a fan of tattoos and has said he doesn't really want me to have it done.
I don't want to upset him, or give him a reason to not like my body, but I really would like it done as a personal expression for me & me being a mother ( hence the strength & protection bit)

What would you do?

I'd love a tattoo and I'm in the planning stage at the moment.

No-one's opinion would put me off if I decide to go for it. It's my body and I'll adorn it if and how I want to.

I would talk it through with him to be honest. Ask him why he's so against it, and explain why you want it. Might be one of you sways the other. At the end of the day it's entirely your choice, but if it were the other way round, wouldn't you want to feel like you'd at least been consulted?

I got a tattoo at 22 and DH (then DB) hated it - he now accepts it as part of me and loves my right foot just as much as the rest of me.

Flame me if you like but I really hate tattoos and my exP got an enormous one, ok our relationship was on the way out anyway but quite seriously it didn't help. To me it looked like a permanent mutilation and it repulsed me.

Hmm my dh was dead against me havi g a tattoo thought it was tragic and sad but I got one done 2 weeks ago. He won't discuss it or really look at it but I love it! My body and my decision :)

It's up to you, but your choice of tattoo sounds a bit naff tbh. Remember you're stuck with it for the rest of your life.

Well, I would be horrified if my DH got a tatoo - it would be so totally alien to the sort of person he is that I would think he was having a mid life crisis or something ................... so, flame me for being shallow but I think tatoos are seriously naff - do you really want a tatoo when you are in your 70s Hmm?

my DP went on and on about how much he didn't want me to get a tattoo and though I wanted one a bit I didn't get one as it wasn't worth the agro,.

He has since started proclaiming how sexy one on my bum would be Confused

He might change his mind....

ive got a large but really lovely flower on the top of my foot - there is a pic on my profile just after i had it done - it looks even better now 6 months on) I told DH i was having one. He said he doesnt like them, but he didnt try to talk me out of it, and he still doesn't like it now.

when i sit gazing admiringly at my stunning tootsies and ask him if he likes it he just says "you know i dont like them" and thats that! no biggie. if you want it, get it.

Leave it for a year and see if it still seems such a good idea then.

And give your husband a break - how would you feel if he insisted on having a large tattoo done on his back, in the full knowledge that you found them unattractive and didn't want him to have one?

I have 6 tattoos, my DP loves them but my ex hated them with a passion!! He had no choice with them tbh, I had one done in the 3 yrs I was with him and he had no say in it! My body and if I want to 'have someone draw on it and pay for the privilege' I bloody well will do!!

Over the years I have found that it's best to keep the peace, and only go against his wishes if it's really important to me.

Sounds like this is something you really want & you will feel you are denying yourself if you don't do it. But I would give him plenty of warning first & let him get used to the idea.

FWIW I also think tattoos are horrible and don't understand how people who frequently change their style/hair/makeup want to lumber themselves with something that can't be changed.

Ragwort,tattoos appeal to me much like make up may appeal to some.I picked mine because I liked the way it looked.And what tattoo(s) you have can make a statement about who you are, if you want them to.

I did it, wanted one since a teenager but waited til I was 25 to go for it. DH hates them but hasn't really said anything since I got it.

I think tattoos should be chosen very carefully & should mean something to the person who had it done. They are often a talking point about why you had it done & can open a further insight to your life story. I have thought about when I'm 70 with a tattoo on me, but then I figured it would be a story, & people could think that I lived my life a bit. Not that I'm saying for one minute that people who don't have tattoos have not lived Blush
I think also, tattoos are an art form, & are a huge credit to the artist who created them. Some tattoos I've seen are masterpieces. You can appreciate an image on that basis alone??

As for my decision, I don't know. He is not completely against them, I think he would just prefer it if I don't. We have discussed it a bit, so might delve deeper before I go ahead

I've seen some nice ones but would never have one but not bothered if dp has them
As its his skin! He had a new one at the weekend and was talking about getting a full sleeve which I did say wouldn't look very good at work but again it's upto him.
