How do you get your blog read?

Hello, I write the blog mommysnotes-yaffa.blogspot.com. I would like to increase my blog's readership. I know that there is information out there to put your blog on Twitter and FB etc... I have posted to friends through FB that I have a blog (not sure how Twitter works yet). However, I am a little uncomfortable to keep posting to friends. I don't want them to feel an obligation to read the posts. I started this blog because there was so much I wanted to say to my daughters but it would be nice to get feedback from other bloggers. Any Ideas?

I use twitter and Facebook. I just put a simple post on both "new blog post today: blah blah blah and a link. Not intrustive, no-one has to click on the link.

I find twitter better, you can find and follow people that interest you, rather than just friends. Other people will do the same and find you?

Also, if you follow other people's blogs, they might follow you back.

I will go and look at your blog. My blog is at www.pershilla.blogspot.com, if you are interested?

Well, joining blog communities like mumsnet & britmums is a start. Give twitter a go, but you have to get involved & not just post your links.

There are some threads on here where people post their latest blog posts. Who are your target demographic?

Hello. I get many of my readers from Twitter. However I do put work into my Twitter account. I have conversations with people I follow, I post photos up as well as my blog link and I also re-tweet other people's messages.

I think a good ratio is about one tweet promoting your blog to 15 - 20 non-promotional tweets - so it is time consuming.

The other thing I do is follow other blogs I like and make a point of commenting on them.

I agree with the previous posters. I try to read new blogs regularly and add them to my feeder in Blogger. It's a great way to "meet" other people with similar interests or issues (e.g. how to cope with going dairy free) and every now and then someone likes my blog enough to add me too. I think that the more you read, the more you will get a feel for it. That's what is working for me, anyway.
