Hope this meets with your approval. It was getting a bit full on the other thread so we've extended and now need to decorate the new space.

I saw War Horse last weekend - it was good, well-acted, but I wouldn't say brilliant. I think it suffered from being such an ensemble piece, so that you didn't really get to know any of the characters that well. BC looked very dashing for his 5-10mins in it though.

Looking forward to Star Trek 2 - saw the first reboot and thought it was fun! I'll be fascinated to see how he deals with Smaug in The Hobbit (and if he took any Grin).

I think the film I'm most looking forward to seeing him in, is Phoenix, though, at least he's got a leading role there - but that will be quite a wait away. Think the next thing we'll see him in Parade's End on TV. Roll on March!

CaveMum · 22/02/2012 14:01

I disliked Atonement, I found it depressing! BC was very good, but thoroughly unlikeable!

I've not seen War Horse yet. So many of my friends/colleagues have seen the theatre production and rave about it, so I want to see that first.

I will go and see Star Trek2 as I quite enjoyed the reboot, despite not really liking the older films/shows.

I'll also see both parts of The Hobbit (BC in part 2 only from what I understand), but I've been planning on seeing it ever since they finally announced they were making it!

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 22/02/2012 14:12

Kiera Knightly makes my teeth itch, so whilst the book is v v well written, I gave up on the film!

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/02/2012 14:19

I can't stand Keira Knightly either, she ruins good films.

I think War Horse is supposed to be a v good film so would like to see it, BC being in it is just a v big bonus.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/02/2012 14:33

I was trying to think of something in which she is good (or even just 'not bad'). Apparently Benedict once punched Mark Kermode because Kermode was habitually rude about La Knightley. Surely (I thought) Benedict knows a good actor when he sees one?

But no. I've thought about it, and consulted IMDB, and he's bad in everything, isn't she? She has two good scenes in Never Let Me Go (the washing-up scene with Carey Mulligan and the one walking down the hospital corridor) and that is GENUINELY ALL I can think of. Otherwise she is reliably wooden.

Sorry Benedict, I still want to ride you into the middle of next week and everything, but you're wrong to defend Ikea K against accusations of bad acting.

CaveMum · 22/02/2012 15:22

Look at it as BC defending her honour, rather than her acting Grin. Being gentlemanly and all that!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/02/2012 15:23

Yes, you're probably right!

snailoon · 22/02/2012 16:13

So, who will be on BC watch on Sunday night? I don't have Sky and apparently the red carpet and ceremony are only available there Sad

He's not presenting any awards and is not nominated for anything, so all we can hope for is some long lingering shots of him in his Spencer Hart suit on the red carpet Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/02/2012 17:04

I don't have Sky either. It'll be Twitter the next day for me, and gossip websites. Think he'll take a date (either real or a friend/relative)?

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/02/2012 17:19

No Sky here either, will have to hope the pics go up on his website.
I don't think he'll have a date unless he asks me

Seraphine1 · 22/02/2012 17:53

I have Sky - I'll be on the lookout! (although probably not live though!)

Is there any way of finding out if he's presenting?

... off to look ....

Shoot - he's not there. They should have asked him!

CaveMum · 22/02/2012 18:01

His profile in Hollywood isn't big enough to warrant getting him to present an award. He needs a leading role in a big film for them to sit up and pay attention.

TBH, I'd rather he stayed just under Hollywoid radar, that way he's far more likely to continue to live in the UK and do lots of smaller things - theatre, radio and the like. Obviously I want him to be a huge success, but for now it feels like he's "ours" (as in the UK's, not just the property of this thread Wink)

Seraphine1 · 22/02/2012 18:20

Yeah, Cavemum, I like how you think. No people I know in Canada have any inkling who he is, and it's nice he's kind of "our secret" for now.

I still think that Hollywood will come a-calling though. Probably after the Hobbit and Star Trek come out. No one can be this good without attracting some big attention. I've not been paying a lot of attention to the movies this year - I wasn't sure if maybe TTSS might have given him a bit more exposure (God knows some of the presenters are lesser actors in past years... sometimes they really scrape the bottom of the barrel)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/02/2012 18:24

I think Sherlock has done a lot to raise his profile ? it's been sold to the US as well as all over the rest of the world. Tinker Tailor must have helped too. I'd love to know how his casting in Phoenix came about.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 22/02/2012 18:25

You know that YouTube clip of him with the American lady arriving at a party? If you watch her in the back ground, she has to tell some people off camera who he is...hollywood directors may know who he is, but he isn't a "celebrity" over there by the looks of things.

That Mykonos book review is my happy place after a tough day!

LetUsPrey · 22/02/2012 18:30

We've got Sky but I think I'll wait for YouTube/Twitter for the highlights.

I am looking forward to Star Trek 2 soooo much. Loved the recent one. Just hope they don't bury him in prosthetics/make up so he's unrecognisable like they did with Eric Bana.

Will catch up later.

You know he turned down Madonna when she offered him the part of Edward VIII in her film WE? Good career move as the film has been panned!

I'm pretty sure he said he was planning on taking a break from work at the time, but then Speilberg offered him War Horse Grin

LetUsPrey · 22/02/2012 19:07

I have had a knackering day at work. What I really want to do is snuggle down on the settee with actual BC, watch a bit of tv, drink a bit of wine, do a bit more "snuggling" and then head on upstairs for lots of sex. Lots.

Instead I've a ton of ironing to put away, washing to do, and DH is in a bit of a grump.

Okay, if he's unknown in the US, I have an idea! I'm going to NYC in april... any chance that he'll be there for any reason at the same time? I could just stroll up to him and say "hi, fancy a drink? I know some people that would be happy to take care of that broodiness you've had trouble with..."

Stalker-Seraphine is cackling maniacally...

CaveMum · 22/02/2012 20:25

If any BC fans are currently in LA, Spencer Hart have just tweeted that BC will be stopping by for a fitting for his Oscars suit today.

Hmm, i just need to take your inside leg measurement Mr Cumberbatch Wink

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/02/2012 21:03

I just want to kiss his perfect mouth, those lips look irresistible mmm

Of course the kissing is just the beginning, I think I might go to bed!

Fluffymonster · 22/02/2012 22:06

CaveMum - yes I quite like that BC has been 'on the cusp' of fame for years, but not quite had worldwide scrutiny up until now, enabling him to go off and do little independent films, TV, theatre etc.

I think the US are about to discover him though, like others have mentioned. Sherlock Series 2 goes on general release across US, in May (as far as I know) - I reckon they'll fall in love with him then too - how can they resist?!

Then it will be followed up with Star Trek 2, and The Hobbit - I think the rest of 2012 and 2013 will bring worldwide fame (if they can get over the name, and the unusual, non american apple pie looks). It wouldn't surprise me if he was presenting an Oscar next year (if not acquiring one himself!...Someday). Kind of sad if it happens - the 'losing' him to Hollywood bit, but at the same time he deserves every success.

He's always said that he would like to keep doing a mixture of film, theatre and TV, that it's the variety of work he enjoys, so hopefully he'll use the big bucks films to enable him to keep doing the other, smaller projects too. Atm at least, he does seem quite grounded and not into fame for fame's sake, but as a vehicle to enable him to get the variety - and from his past choices, we know he's not just paying lip service, he means it. He's a bright bloke, and also with his parents being actors themselves, and sort of knowing the perils and pitfalls, hopefully he'll be able to steer a steady course through the madness of fame!

SeaShells - Found the clip. The bit with him sat with his shirt off and his tanned chest on display at 3.13-3.34mins - he could have been reading the Yellow Pages for all I knew. How do they expect anyone to concentrate on the reviews??

Seraphine - I think he might be due to start filming 'Phoenix' in the spring? It's set in the US (clue being in the title, where they travel 4000miles to) so...hmmm...maybe we can play Seraphine-spotting in a new 'Pop Candies' vid on youtube then! Grin

Kids soundly asleep, DP has fallen asleep too. Seems an odd choice but I'm going to check out the Miss Marple episode of the dreamy montage posted earler, .
