Twitter etiquette? Can anyone help?

I've noticed that a few people seem to share blog posts more than once on Twitter. Obviously then more people see it, as Twitter readers only tend to look back at the last few posts when logging in, but is repetitive posting acceptable etiquette?

Is there a generally accepted frequency of re-sharing?

So far I have only ever shared my posts once (maybe twice) on twitter, at the point I wrote them usually.

I share my posts about 3 times on Twitter, usually at least 3 hours apart. I think the statistics are that only around 5% of your network are online at any one time, so if you spread it out a bit then you catch people in different time zones.

I think it's fair to think that people who follow you are interested in what you've got to say - it's easy enough for them to unfollow if they aren't. The main thing with Twitter is not to use it just to pimp your own stuff and be generous in promoting other people/retweeting as well. It sounds like you are doing fine and could easily get away with sharing your new posts a few more times - maybe once in working hours, early morning and late at night to catch other time zones.

Like Joanne, I share mine approximately three times a day - morning, afternoon and evening. Maybe schedule one in the middle of the night for overseas readers if I think it's a post that is creating a good discussion.

The idea is to ensure that you're not spamming your timeline but also tweeting it enough for it to be seen (if that's what you want). And I completely agree with promoting other reads too. Share what you're reading and people will share your links in return.

There are many tools to share your post on twitter and facebook upon publication and if you hashtag a link then people watching streams for certain keywords may pick it up too.

As a Twitter addict, I use Twitter a LOT.
I put my blog posts up there approx 3 - 4 times a day - 8am, 12pm, 5pm and 8.30pm.
I find that spacing them out like that means that that way everyone has a good chance of seeing your posts,
The most important thing with Twitter though is don't just post your links and nothing else. You need to come across like a 'real person', and not just post your links and nothing else.
Keep your posts interspersed- as well as tweeting your links, tweet status update type things, and engage with other users - if they ask questions, answer them, or strike up conversation with them.
Come across as friendly and actively engaged you'll encourage more people to follow and to read your posts as well.

I tweet all the time too - and post my blog updates usually about 3 times spaced out through out the day - I also tweet about everything and anything and try and retweet others and #FF them etc.

So long as you aren't only posting links to your blog, but Tweeting, re-Tweeting, discussing etc then you can post a link to your blog 3 - 4 times a day.

It sounds like a 3 times a day system is quite common. I am blogging roughly 3 times a week at the moment and facebooking and tweeting inbetween. But I think I can afford to share the blog posts to twitter more!

It's quite time consuming, but I am engaging better and picking up more comments on the blog, which is great.

How do you time a tweet for middle of the night typecast?

Yellow flowers... I am guessing, and I am sure Typecast will add (or correct me!) but I would think that you can do this is if you have your email set up to post messages direct to Twitter. It's fairly easy to schedule emails for any time. This is probably a long winded way though!?

Not sure if you can do it within Twitter, unless it's an option on Tweetdeck?

And sometimes it can be appropriate to tweet a link to an old post if it is relevant to the days news. No one minds that, especially if you have been involved in a twitter conversation about that particular topic. It can be a way of attracting new readers too.

There's a few apps or twitter platforms (tweetdeck, hootsuite) that allow you to schedule your tweets (i.e. put a timer on them).

Never thought about emailing them actually but I suppose that's possible.
