Baby in bike trailer?

We are off to centre parks (no bum fun comments please ;-) ) will be dh and our 3 dc ages 12,4 and 3 months (shell be 15+ weeks). They state for trailers 6 months plus but my hv today said he reckoned dd would be fine in one.

Has anyone got one of used one for a baby? Are there helmets to fit such a little one? Help please

i think you will struggle to get a helmet to fit, you can use trailers for babies tho, you can buy special seats, a bit like a carseat that fit in the trailer, my friend has one and used it lots, but it may be expensive to buy for one holiday? unless you intend to use a trailer at home?

i dunno try your carseat in the trailer, see if you can strap it in? but not sure i would risk it but then you will be going slowly its cycle friendly, no cars etc?

It is cycle friendly, no cars etc. good idea with Carseat. It's that or I trot alongside with pram Grin

A 3 month old can't use a trailer because they can't sit in the seat.

I don't think you'll be able to strap a carseat into it.

A friend of mine put her baby in a car seat in one.

It worked well for her.

We had a trailer and used to strap the rear facing baby car seat into it when we cycled on cycle trails

it's not a good idea to use a cycle trailer without one of the newborn adaptations - and even then most manufacturers recommend you just use them as a stroller until over 6mos. it's something to do with the bouncing/ going over bumps, and jolts and stuff because you are going at a higher speed. something to do with strength of neck muscles and whatnot.

will centreparcs let you borrow for one a 3mo? usually these places check because of their liability insurance.

depends what your risk level is like really. Grin

we put dd1 into a back pack earlier than 6 mos, but her head control was pretty good and tbh we weren't going anywhere fast. they all used the cycle trailer before 6mos but as a three wheeler. we did get the newborn support, but weren't brave enough to cycle with it. we spent literally hours trying to work out of it would be safe to lash the car seat inot the trailer... Grin

have fun, anyway!

oooggs · 31/01/2012 17:50

We strapped it in so that it was forward facing iyswim

4madboys · 31/01/2012 17:53

thinking about this i wouldnt do it ont he road, but in centre parks, no cars, very slowly, strapped in securely in carseat, they have a headhugger bit and make sure baby is cosy with blankets and tucked in snuggly etc if you can strap the carseat into the trailer, which you should be able to do as that is basically what the seat is that you can buy for a trailer, then its worth a go, do it rearfacing and see how secure it is?

4madboys · 31/01/2012 17:54

oh so oooggs did the other way round, well try both and see what seems the most secure, it got to be worth a go i think, its not like you will be cycling round for hours?

I used to use a car seat in our trailer but I got a second hand seat so that I wasn't the seat I used in the car. I wouldn't use a trailer without a car seat until older. I think I used mine a couple of time in a car free place with her older sister sat next to her when little one was 10mths. She didn't go in it on her own until she was a year.

I think I'll just take pram and sling and let dh haul our 4 year old around in trailer (ds might evict dd from trailer anyway Grin). Now wanting to get a btw new carrier as closer sling a bit snug for my chubby baby and my massive boobs
