Not AIBU. WWYD - who gets to drink tonight!

Newmummytobe79 · 14/01/2012 12:43

Going to DH's friends for dinner. Taking baby so early start and early finish.

Will both have a glass of wine when we get home and baby is in bed.

DH wants a beer with friend, I want a wine or two with DH's wife.

DH has been working hard all week, I've been working hard looking after baby all week.

So ... I put this to the Mumsnet members ... who should drive and who should enjoy a drink or two! :)

Wine Wine Wine

Is taxi a viable option?

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2012 12:48

Get a taxi or toss a coin?

If you're both going to have a drink when you get home, does it really matter who has alcohol when you're out?

Acceptableintheeighties · 14/01/2012 12:54

Dh's friend, dh gets the beer. Your friend, you get the wine.

That's usually our rule, or it depends on whats on the next day. If I have to work, I won't drink as I hate feeling rough when working behind a bar!

Newmummytobe79 · 14/01/2012 12:55

:( Thought I was going to get a resounding I should have Wine! Grin

Taxi out of the question as we'll both be pursuaded to stay out for one more.

At least if one of us is driving we'll get baby home early-ish for bed.

I guess I'll have to find my double headed coin Wink

Then book the taxi to arrive for a certain time?

saladcreamwitheverything · 14/01/2012 13:03

If you prebook a taxi to come back you can't be tempted to just one more drink! Otherwise I agree with AITE and Maryz.

It's not like either of you are gonna get ratarsed if you've got the baby to look after anyway!

VonHerrBurton · 14/01/2012 14:28

Simply toss a coin best of three if it doesn't fall in your favour first time or rock/paper/scissors ....

ChaosTrulyReigns · 14/01/2012 14:30

Normally I drive there and he drives homes.

Fair.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 14/01/2012 14:31

Homes?

That makes us sound like we have many pads.

diddl · 14/01/2012 14:33

Fairly certain I´ll get flamed for this, but how bloody sad-adults "arguing" over who gets to drink.

Especially when they´ll be drinking when they get home.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/01/2012 14:34

I reckon that 'AskJeeves' could be replaced by AskWorra... fab at problem-solving, she is. Grin

Book the taxi in advance... or 'leave him' and marry a teetotaller.

DressDownFriday · 14/01/2012 14:36

Who drove on the last night out?

If it was dh friend, then I would offer to drive. Sorry -not the answer you wanted.

Newmummytobe79 · 14/01/2012 14:37

ChaosTrulyReigns - you are the winner! Grin excellent idea!

diddl - it's just a light hearted post - no 'arguing' whatsoever. Maybe have a drink and chill out? Grin

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 14/01/2012 14:41

I agree with the booking taxi for a set time suggestion. Although, having read Chaos's suggestion, I think (s)he is truly a genious.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 14/01/2012 14:42

Genious? oh lord..............GENIUS.

SydSaid · 14/01/2012 14:42

Is your husband a bigamist??

'DH wants a beer with friend, I want a wine or two with DH's wife.'

(just kidding, I know what you mean really... or at least I think I do...)

Newmummytobe79 · 14/01/2012 14:44

hahaha! SydSaid - nope, as far as I know there's just me as DH's wife Grin

OP posts:
diddl · 14/01/2012 14:45

"no 'arguing' whatsoever."

That´s why I put arguing in quotation marks.

But don´t most people just take it in turns?

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2012 14:45

Lying Grin

HelenMumsnet · 14/01/2012 15:14

Hello. We're going to move this now to WWYD because, as the OP says, that's where it belongs. Smile

OnlyANinja · 14/01/2012 15:25

Whoever you decide has to drive tonight doesn't have to drive next time.

Them's the rules.

SauvignonBlanche · 14/01/2012 15:32

I do the same deal as Chaos does.
