Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you are all having a brilliant time. We celebrated with our friends, and am stuffed full as I post this.

This is my latest blog post, Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Chestnut Pots. Surprisingly light for a Nigella recipe :)

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire never tasted this good. Decadent chocolate and chestnut pots de creme with Frangelico

Morning all, I've blogged today about what would happen if David Attenborough decided to cover tales of the annual migration which is the festive season.

Sorry, can't link properly from phone but it's the last post on www.applepiewithwensleydale.wordpress.com

Must go, got to hop in the car again!

Next blog will probably be on how the bloody oven broke. On Christmas Day. Unfortunately I still can't see for the red mist which descends when I think about it, so need to wait for it to clear first!

Happy new year folks

BaronessOrczy · 30/12/2011 10:50

Yay!! A surprise new years present - am a featured blogger - thanks, MNHQ xx

PetiteRaleuse · 30/12/2011 12:20

I have blogged about smells and sounds which suddenly take me back to the past. Am interested to know if it happens to other people or if I am just a little mad :)

ScatCat loved your rant and completely agree. Over here restaurants are far more child friendly !

Emmabooks · 30/12/2011 15:01

Today's Christmas blog is about taking children to the theatre - and what age to start.

My cousin's just had her first baby :), so amidst trying my first patchwork quilt, I took a moment to make her this taggie blanket

Flubba · 30/12/2011 15:08

I love your smells and sounds petite :)

PetiteRaleuse · 30/12/2011 15:20

Thanks flubba

overmydeadbody · 30/12/2011 17:53

Thank you petite

So here's to 2011... and the books I've read

Which books have you had your nose in this year? Any you'd recommend? My recent blog post reviews through the books I?ve read this year.

Would love to know what good reads you suggest... have a look here:

Easy NYE meal

Not been round much anywhere on the internets for about 3 weeks. Shock

FiveHoursSleep · 30/12/2011 19:44

I've blogged about our favourite presents this year in the hope that others will do the same and I'll get some inspiration for the two kids' birthdays I have to face in January.

yummymummyreally · 30/12/2011 19:46

ScatCat. Liked the restaurant post. It's a strange thing that if you don't have children you somehow feel you are entitled to never have to look at one, particularly in posh restaurants which are somehow assumed to be the realm of the child free.

But it's precisely this environment, of sitting and having a nice meal (proper food) that young children should be exposed to in order for them to experience this kind of environment and know how to act and to appreciate it. We took our two to restaurants from birth, some very family orientated, others not so, and as a result they know how to behave (though taking a colouring book is essential for restaurants with slightly longer waiting times!)

Discrimination is discrimination... However it's camouflaged.

ScatCatShoo · 30/12/2011 20:30

Thank you very much for all your comments on the post guys. I must admit, that post was a bit terrifying to write, and it took me a long time to hit publish. I have no courage whatsoever to speak out, and I was so worried about what kind of reaction it would get.

What spurred it on was a tweet from a local mum (@cinnymom) about people's reactions to her child having a tantrum in Ikea. I was pretty outraged and went straight back to the post and hit publish. So far the comments have been pretty supportive. Though I posted the link on another forum and the comments have been 'interesting' so to say :-)

Here is my obligatory end of year post jenniferslittleworld.blogspot.com/2011/12/ending-year-in-upheaval.html

I'm a bit stressed and anxious at the moment as we are moving house next week and everything is in a bit of a mess, I can't wait to get sorted out. I'm not being able to spend as much time at the computer as I'd like, but making it my New Year's resolution to add some more blogs to my reading list. I am planning to come up with some sort of challenge to get to know some new-to-me blogs.

MmeLindor. · 30/12/2011 21:51

Sad news Chez Lindor.

We are leaving.

:(

Bexxia · 30/12/2011 22:18

After nearly three months of procrastination, I have finally written another Flashback Friday post. Couldn't resist sharing some snaps of Zachary when he started solids last Christmas:

Flashback Friday: Weaning

wannaBe · 30/12/2011 23:05

well, in my series of news reviews I have touched on

\link{http://attheheartoftheopinion.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-news-review-2011-how-were-we.html\entertainment}

Am debating whether to continue blogging next year. I can't seem to attract more hits - I do like writing the posts but not sure if there's any point sometimes. Need to think on it.

but final news review post will follow tomorrow and then we'll see.

solidgoldbrass · 31/12/2011 00:50

Oh you can just add links here? Here's a rant about nearly getting nicked.

solidgoldbrass · 31/12/2011 00:50

Oh bum try here

MmeGuillotine · 31/12/2011 01:02

Really enjoying reading everyone's posts! I've had a bit of a break from blogging due to trying to make some progress with this novel and also having a bit of an anxiety flare up.

I'll probably rattle something off tomorrow. Probably with lots of photographs of Lego Harry Potter stuff with additional whimsy.

If I don't pop in beforehand then have an excellent new year's eve everyone! xx

overmydeadbody · 31/12/2011 10:55

Finally, project number one hundred and eleven.

I did it!!

My last blog of the year is here - a reflection on the year just gone and a look forward to what might lie ahead.

I'd just like to add my thanks to the many people on Mumsnet who have supported me during my somewhat shitty 2011 and to wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful 2012.
