The Camel's Hump

So, after we were featured in the bloggers email today, I thought I would explain a bit :)

The Camel's Hump is a group blog - this means that we have a few contributors who all write posts. Some do several - for example we have one writer who sends something in nearly every day. Some do less, and some only do the odd one. Because it is a group blog, this is all fine - there isn't the pressure to constantly come up with stuff. We also have a few writers who repost stuff they have written for their own blog or for somewhere else.

When people tell me they want to write for us, I send them an invite through wordpress so they are authorised as a contributor. This means they can send posts in through the wordpress system, and one of the editorial people (usually me, but there are four of us in total, only the others are much busier) has a look at it, proof reads, and so on. If any major changes are needed, the writer always gets a chance to approve them, and then the post is scheduled to publish - this could be at any point in the next few days as we fit them in with the other posts to get a good variety.

We have based the blog on a magazine, so we cover pretty much anything. We do have a blatant left wing focus, though, and we tend towards the ranty rather than the twee. Still, we will consider almost any type of content, as long as it is well written and interesting to a general audience. Writers all have their own profile, and can link back to their own blog if they like. We are getting more and more search engine hits and so on, so it could lead to valuable exposure, and is good writing experience. It is also fun to be part of a thriving site. :)

We are steadily getting more readers, and we need more writers. So, bloggers of mumsnet, we need you! Have a look at the site, and if you fancy joining us, get in touch. Our contributors policy is here and you can contact me here

Thanks!
