ds2 (12) has a painful ingrowing toe nail. yesterday i sent him to school in trainers with a note explaining why. The school shoes were making it worse.
within half an hour i had a call to say they were putting him in the isolation room. That means he is not in lessons all day and cannot mix at lunchtime etc.
i asked to speak to the head of year , but only got a call back from the pupil office telling me that he had aggreed to wear some of their shoes (apparently new) 2 sizes too big.
when he got home he was really upset and had felt embarassed about the shoes, kids had laughed at him.
Hes had problems at school already and has been under camhs so doing something like that with ds2 is a big deal.
i am taking him to the doctors this morning but i was wondering what i do then about the shoes.
i dont want to put him through that again.
but i dont think he should miss school either.
what do you think?

I don't understand, why was he in an isolation room? And why, if you sent a note, did they still insist he had to wear their shoes?

If they can't cope with a reasonable request from a parent about a temporary problem, then I'd take him to the doctor and tell them what the problem is. If the medical advice is for suitable footwear, I'd email the school and ask them to confirm it is OK.
If they say no, I'd keep him off on medical grounds and tell them why.

when my dd got pushed down some steps at school she had a big briuse on her side and a badly swollen foot i sent her in some trainers but i had a fone call telling me she had to keep school shoes on only ,i said well if youd of rang me wen she got hurt i would come for her anyhow they let her wear her trainers for 3 days only and had to have a note from the ht saying it was ok it was that or keep her off till her foot went down.

Sorry to be a bit dim but what is Camhs? Last year, DS2 hurt his foot, a tin dropped on it and I sent him in trainers with a note explaining why.The school were fine about it

I told them isolation room was inapropriate as he had done nothing wrong and always wears the correct footwear normally. Their answer was to provide some footwear in a bigger size so that it wouldnt hurt his toe Xmas Hmm
he told me their shoes were uncomfortable and embarassing and at high school appearance is everything to them isnt it !
so, im thinking i should go with him to school after the docs wearing his trainers and tell them thats what hes wearing .

SO they put him in an isolation room because he had the wrong shoes on? Not becaus he'd battered a teacher or stole something, or disrupted the class etc? HmmI'd be livid about that, and writing a letter of complaint to the school and the LEA.

If it was me, and I was taking him to the docs, I'd go in with him to school and say "THis is what he's wearing for x amount of days. If you are not happy I will take him home and if you mark him as unathorised absence I will complain to LEA/Governors etc"

I ranted on the phone to them yesterday about him going to isolation, i told them he was not going to isolation, it was unfair etc. they didnt send him there in the end because he aggreed to wear their naff shoes.
dont see why he should though!
misaltireandwine im going with you , if they dont agree i will take him home.
really disapointed in the school, ds2 already hates school and ive had a hard time getting him there in the past. I am loathe to let ds2 see i am disputing the rules but i have to stick up for him dont i.
