My son received a wonderful new born gift from my aunt and uncle, my uncle passed away the day we received the gift in the post. How should I address the thank you note? We weren't close, but I've been to the funeral and have sent several 'thinking of you type' emails to the family.

To your aunt and mention something about how sad you are that uncle will not be able to see babyblueberry wearing it/playing with it. Maybe Confused.

I would address the aunt but thank them both from the bottom of my heart for their thoughtful and generous present for my dc. I really does not matter that you were not close, they gave a wonderful gift and that is what matters.

So sorry about your loss! Sad

Just to add that I am not a native english speaker, but this is the approach I would take in my own culture. Fab's suggestion about the uncle "not being able to see..." is very touching.

I absolutely love the 'not able to see' thank you bemybabe
