Hire a designer suit or buy one?

My son has been invited to a travellers wedding, the fact I mentioned they are travellers is imortant as for those that have seen them or know about them, they are VERY big affairs.

My DP is dead against getting a designer suit, absolutely adament a cheap Tesco's one will do, but discussing this with his traveller friend last night, he nodded when I said that he had to have something decent.

Now, Should I hire a Ralph Lauren or something nice , or shall I buy one?

I doubt we are going to get the moneys worth if we buy one, but if it gets wrecked and it's a hire suit, we'd end u having to pay out anyway.

The wedding is in January and although we don't have much time, with cut backs I could afford a nice suit.

WWYD. Shall I go against D and buy my son a decent suit bearing in mind the majority will be in their best attire, I don't want my 'country boy' son looking out of place. Or B) rent a suit hoping it won't get wrecked' C) buy him a cheap suit

Thanks

How old is your son? What does he want to do?

Are you/DP going?

If he's old enough to be invited to a wedding that his parents aren't, surely he's old enough to buy his own suit?

I would also bear in mind that this is not likely to be the last wedding he ever attends, he will most likely attend a funeral at some point in his life and then there are job interviews...

If it helps, my parents bought me a decent (well, Next!) suit as a graduation present and I'm still wearing it 10 years on [shcok]

Bugger, probably not finished growing yet either then!

Supermarket. Or M&S??

smackapacca · 26/11/2011 19:23

OK as this is a WWYD - I am going to plump for buying M&S. I think if it was a girl you'd be able to 'notice' the price of the outfit, but men can wear suits well without a huge price tag. This would do for the next few years weddings/funerals/interviews.

It might be worth a look on ebay, there are loads of suits, just get his measurements right. You can always chuck it back on ebay and recoup the cost once he grows out of it.

Thanks all, i'll get thyself to M&S Smile
