Birthday party

Its my birthday in two weeks and MIL has taken upon herself to organise a party at her house for me and and another of her friends whose birthday is on the same day. I have only recently had my second child (DS2 will be 3wks old) and although it's a lovely gesture I am not really looking forward to it! Mostly because I know she will expect DH, DS1 (3.11) and DS2 to all stay the night at hers and the fact that I know everyone there will be getting extremely drunk. In fact I almost feel like my birthday was just the 'excuse' she needed to throw a party not because she really cares about what I want to do for my birthday! I am not going to be able to get out of going at this late stage but I am undecided whether we should stay or not. I kinda want to be in the comfort of my home at the moment with a new baby but it would mean either keeping DS1 awake late or putting him to bed at MILs then waking him to get a taxi home (we only live less than 5 mins car ride away). I know MIL and DS would disapprove of this and think it was unnecessary when MIL and SIL are offering us their beds for the night. I don't want to appear ungrateful and I'm sure I'll have a nice time at the party but will no doubt be wanting my bed a lot earlier than the rest of them! So what would you do...???

Speak to your DH and come up with a plan. Explain things. I'm assuming you don't drive since you mention getting a taxi?

Get DH on your side and get him to thank MiL and explain that your taxi is booked for X time and you will all be getting it. Play it by ear as to whether DS should go to bed or whether he is happy being up late.

We do both drive but was thinking I would prob need a couple of drinks to get me through the evening Grin and obviously wouldn't want to then drive!
