Well, it's about time.

Now all we need are furnishings and decorations...Wink

Only number four and I need to Google to find out who some of the others are. But then, I wouldn't apply the epithet ordinary to Mr Brosnan.

::has small wibblette at memory of the Thomas Crown Affair::

SupermassiveLBD · 27/11/2011 16:25

Nah, Mr Brosnan is mighty fine. but conventionally so.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 16:42

True, I s'pose, but the twinkle in the TCA was quite something.

::fans self::

I am compiling my letter to Santa. Anyone got any suggestions for what I should ask for? Preferably, items that are available from Amazon before anyone gets carried away. I am angling for the dvd of The Crimson Petal And The White.

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 17:00

I have asked for some Georgette Heyer novels, a Warblers CD, that book that Massive mentioned about a cook/servant (I forget the title) , A Venice book, Cold Comfort Farm, (as you lot always go on about it and I've never read it) and a Spooks book

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 17:08

Cold Comfort Farm is wonderful and then you could ask for the telly version with Rufus Sewell.

Do I want The Convenient Marriage given that I have been ignoring Sylvester?

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 17:11

OMG I didn't realise you didn't already have it!!! Yes, you not only want it, you NEED it. I am on my third listening as we speak. It is sublime. Marcus is... divine.

My fave bit in the book (said in a spoiler-free way) is when Person A justifies the cost of some shoes to Person B. Person A says "you see, they have heels studded with Emeralds" and Person B said "Then the matter becomes clear" :) And Pelham is one of my favourite characters EVER.

To sum up - yes, put it on your list. NOW.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 17:17

::meekly::

Yes, Twiggy. Whatever you say, Twiggy.

If you want a giggle - and definitely not any serious career advice - come and join my thread in Chat about how to deal with colleagues who are pompous arses.

SupermassiveLBD · 27/11/2011 18:02

Oh poor Maudie. There's a lot of it about, as someone used to say.

The book Twigs mentioned is One Pair of Hands by Monica Dickens. There is also One Pair of Feet about her experiences in a 1930's horspital, which is equally hilarious.

I must get those audio books, as soon as RH 2 has staggered to my door.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 19:15

Instead of verbal sparring with my colleague, perhaps I should ask a pal to intervene?

SupermassiveLBD · 27/11/2011 19:26

Bless him, he adds whole new shades of meaning to the phrase "hell for leather" does he not?

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 19:28

Oh dear Maud, sounds like not much fun at work :(

Yep, that was it Massive! You sold it very well and really made me want to read it.

Ooh, ooh, I've just remembered the RH audiobooks! What are they like? Much as I love The Voice, there needs to be a bit more than just that... are the stories any good?

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 19:29

More like heaven in leather, I'd say, Massive...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 19:35

Not really, Twiggolino. I like my job very much but have one colleague who is what my mother used to call a stuffed shirt - pompous and with a high opinion of himself that is not justified by his actual performance. Normally when he goes into Mr Toad mode we all just (mentally) roll our eyes but when it was directed at me in a rather unpleasant way I started wondering whether someone (aka me) ought to say something, as otherwise he's never going to stop.

SupermassiveLBD · 27/11/2011 19:37

heaven in leather

Even more so, out of it, Twigs.

I think the RH audiobooks are a mixed bag, the ones based on the eps are so-so. But I want the one with the Gizzy/PLFW drunken convo!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 20:00

Oh no. They've booted the lovely Anita off Strictly.

::Offended on behalf of all Old Birds everywhere::

LadyDamerel · 27/11/2011 20:26

The Siege is the one you want, Massive. And Witchfinders as it's S3 Gizzy and he is delightfully haggard and distraught through it.

I agree re. the episode ones. It's nice to listen to the Voice but the stories are a bit meh without the visuals.

And yes to TCM for Maud and Massive (or any of the GHs you don't own Massive), I have listened to all 3 of mine repeatedly - I just need him to do a few more now Grin.

Twigs, which GHs have you asked for?

I'm watching RH S3 with LordD as he's never watched it. How terribly convenient that is!

TheSmallPrint · 27/11/2011 20:42

Evening ladies. Been a busy old weekend, can anyone summarise the important stuff for me? Please??

LadyDamerel · 27/11/2011 20:43

RA is sex on a stick.

I think that pretty much covers it.

LadyDamerel · 27/11/2011 20:47

New proof should you need it. It sends the wibble-o-meter off the scale though - you have been warned.

SupermassiveLBD · 27/11/2011 20:51

Masterful summary, LadyD!

Right, Siege and Witchfinders it is. Oh, dear though, all this Gizzy haggardness and distraughtness is very taxing on my pore constitution.

Can't he be happy , once in a while?

TheSmallPrint · 27/11/2011 20:55

Thank you for that summation Lady D, I think I get the picture Grin

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 20:57

LOL @ LadyD's summary!

Smally, whilst you're here, have you seen the film yet? I really want to see it with you but not sure when I could fit it in - I only have weekends or Fridays free at the moment - don't suppose you could do either of those?

Maud, is this person senior to you? Could he cause problems for you? The list of People I Wish I Could Say Something To But Haven't Got The Courage is almost as long as my LoL...

So which RH audiobooks would you recommend?

Oh, Frederica was the GH book I asked for... I think that was the one you recommended a while back, LadyD? Any other favourites? (as my birthday isn't long after Xmas!)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2011 21:15

Small - Plagiarism is a serious offence in academic circles and so it really is in your own best interests that you should do some intensive study of your own.

No, Twiggy, he's a lot younger than me and several years' my junior in terms of experience. I'm thinking of some variant of the MN classic "did you mean that to sound so offensive?"

LadyDamerel · 27/11/2011 21:18

Frederica is a vv good choice. My personal faves are Regency Buck, Black Sheep, Arabella, Lady of Quality, The Unknown Ajax, The Nonesuch and a trilogy which begins in the pre-Regency period with These Old Shades followed by Devil's Cub and An Infamous Army^.

Lots of people love The Grand Sophy and Friday's Child although they're not in my top 10.

I love all of them, to be honest. I've re-read them all at least once, they are go-to books when I'm fed up because they are guaranteed to make me feel better.

PassTheTwiglets · 27/11/2011 21:30

Oh tell him then Maud, if you are brave enough!

I will add some of those to the list then, LadyD. I have always loved the title Regency Buck :)
