How do you know how many people (if any!) are subscribing to your blog by RSS feed?

I can see how many email subscribers there are but I got the impression most people preferred RSS for reading blogs (that's how I subscribe to other people's) and don't know where to look for that data about my own blog. Thanks v much

What platform do you use? This is the info for wordpress.com blogs:

en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/

At the bottom of the page.

Thanks, notatschool - I use wordpress, which I think must be different from wordpress.com in this respect because I can't find the 'Top posts and pages' link they refer to

Do you have your own domain? Then you are using Wordpress.org.

You can install various plugins and widgets to track your hits.

fiddlerintheloft · 15/11/2011 10:26

Yes, Tee, I have my own domain, and yes I'm using Wordpress.org (sorry post above wasn't v clear).

Aha, so I need a plug-in/widget? Was just wondering if there was anything in-built to track syndicated views. Are you on WordPress.org and if so, what widget/plug-in do you use?

Yes, I am on Wordpress.org.

I used Jetpack plug-in which has all sorts of bits including site stats, although it doesn't show RSS specifically. Not sure if it shows it at all.

There are also plug-ins for Google Analytics which can get you much more details information.

Just search the plug-in directory, you'll be bound to turn up something!

OK, thanks - will do that now.

I don't think there is a way. Unless you can see on Feedreeder. Will check.

MmeLindor. · 15/11/2011 16:58

Yes, I can see that I have 13 subscribers (woohoo) but that only counts those who sign up through Feedburner doodah. Any who grab the RSS code and do it themselves won't show up.

And checked Google Analytics, it tells me that I had 100 clicks in last month from RSS feeds. And 300 from Feedburner/Twitter.

TheLastChocolate · 15/11/2011 19:50

this is an interesting question.

I use Blogger, and haven't set up RSS feeds... wasn't actually sure what they are or how to do it. In fact I still am not sure!

I have a function on my blog for ppl to get it via email - how do I find out how many people get my blog that way?

fiddlerintheloft · 16/11/2011 12:44

Hi Mme - Thanks v much (I am one of those rss subscribers btw ? loved your breastfeeding post today).

I've never used feedreeder I don't think and I haven't signed up to google analytics yet (get my stats just via the inbuilt site stats thing on the dashboard). Perhaps I need to sign up to both those.

Last chocolate - Check out Mme Lindor's site Salt and Caramel (see bar on the right) there's a v helpful explanation of RSS feeds on there (and instructions on how to set up). You should be able to get details of your email subscribers on feedburner once it's all up and running.
