DC to sew own badges on at guides/scouts?

Just wondering what people do, not what they think.

DD 10, soon going to Guides, I sewed all her Brownie badges on.
DS 12, just joined scouts.

I know DD is capable of doing her own sewing badges on in future. I don't see why DS couldn't learn.

What do other people do for children this age?

Everyone IRL says "Oh, my mum does that", meaning it's granny's job. But we don't have any of those, so...

I don't sew on badges, let along 9y DD. Especially on that dreadful Brownies sash that is so thick it breaks needles!

Buy the badge glue - so much easier and quicker.

I seem to remember one of the first badges you did in the Girls Brigade was the needlework badge... which essentially gave you just about enough skill to thread a needle and sew on a badge. Sorted! Grin

As a guider I would say they should do it as its not that hard - honest!! - however having seen some of the terrible attempts I've seen I would say perhaps get the glue if you don't have the time.

Thinking back to when I was young (early 80's) I think my mum sewed on my first lot of badges but by the time I was 12/13 I def. did it- think I got a bit of a thrill sewing on another interest badge (I'm probably a bit weird!!).

Perhaps show them how and then get them to do the rest.

I always had to sew mine on and I am useless at sewing.

Dd can definitely do it, she made a little Medusa doll (sewing) the other night, completely independently.
It's the 12yo DS who will probably never learn.
But if 10yo has to do it than so should DS.
And since DS's have to go on an acrylic jumper, will be more fiddly to sew, as well.

Does badge glue work on fleeces and acrylic? I know it's useless for Judo tabs. Confused

Found old thread, problem is the clothes will have no resale value if I use glue.

I can bloody glue them on?? Why did no one tell me this?

I spent hours sewing all ds scout badges on last night.
