Hello! I'm shaking with nerves here as this is the first time I've created a new thread on Mumsnet and this is a terrifying and rather momentous occasion. What if I do it wrong?!

Anyway, here's the inaugural post and it is, I think, a GOOD one:

A guest post about actors looking hot in Roman armour.

You're welcome. ;)

Shirley
maybe cause they are a bit sherbety? The parmaviolets - they fizz a bit on the tongue, if I remember rightly.

Dilly
You have just reminded me to buy Oreos to make Oreo Brownies, as seen on TV this week. What is the name of the baker/model woman who does the baking show? She did them, looked absolutely yummy.

My rant today is about the DM, Liz Jones Sperm Stealing antics and general misogyny

Having sperm stealing in your blog title certainly ups the hit rate. I can recommend it.

MmeLindor. · 03/11/2011 11:26

Scary post, Petite.

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 11:30

Oh yes MMeL - it's definintely the sherbert in them making it foam up like a loon! Bloody Liz Bloody Jones.

Oreo Brownies? - I think you're talking about Lorraine Pascal?

MmeLindor. · 03/11/2011 11:32

Yes, she is the one.

They looked fabulous. MUST MAKE

SouthernandCross · 03/11/2011 11:38

Anyone else got a house like mine

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 11:41

I DON'T WANT TO KNOW! I've got enough on the agenda for this weekend. Grin

MmeGuillotine · 03/11/2011 12:07

I adore anything violet flavoured - I almost died when I found violet jam in Paris. VIOLET JAM. The French are GENIUSES. They have ROSE JAM too.

I've just found a company that does vegan violet and rose creams. That's all I'm going to eat over Christmas.

oooooooh, you would love this place, MmeG

Confiserie Florian

We visited the factory near Nizza.

PetiteRaleuse · 03/11/2011 12:27

My local supermarket has a violet liqueur that we add to white wine or champers to make yummy kirs.

I don't understand how the UK has missed out on how wonderful violet is.

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 12:36

Violet JAM.

VIOLET LIQUER?

I love anything that tastes how flowers smell (floral is the word I'm looking for! Grin) I once bought a huge bottle of rose syrup - stumped what to do with it though (apart from bunging it in vodka with soda and ice) I wonder if I could use it in a cake? Like that cola syrup I used once for cola cupcakes.

MmeGuillotine · 03/11/2011 12:43

The Purple Turtle in Camden used to have violet liqueur, which was rather nice. I'd forgotten about that - may have to buy a bottle!

Rose syrup is AMAZING in cakes! I put it in the frosting as rose water just isn't um ROSEY enough. :)

I love anything flower flavoured - I'm most distressed that I can't have the geranium cupcakes from Waitrose any more. I may have to figure out a vegan alternative as it makes me rather woebegone from time to time.

I had VIOLET ECLAIRS last time I was in Paris too.

MissPB · 03/11/2011 12:46

Oh wow I want me some of that there pirate rum!

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 12:46

I got very VERY pissed on a violet cocktail in Soho a few months ago. Everyone else was drinking Pornstar Martinis and bramble gin. Idiots!

Please tell me about violet eclairs. Is the cream flavoured with violet or the pastry? Do they still have chocolate on them. OHMIGOD it would be like a GIGANTIC violet cream. DAMN this diet.

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 12:46

haha MissPB - make some! It's dead easy.

MmeGuillotine · 03/11/2011 12:50

The pastry was the usual stuff, the cream was a custardy crème anglais but the icing on top was VERY violet flavoured and tinted a pale purple. It was HEAVEN.

I bet it's possible to get them with a violet cream filling and chocolate on top! That sounds even better!

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 12:58

That. Sounds. Heavenly.

I'd like to have a go at making something like that. I love that website where they make gigantic sweets, like HUUGE Kitkats and stuff. Have you seen it? check out this bounty bar

Can you imagine a HUGE violet cream? Actually, half a violet cream, half rose.

DillyTante · 03/11/2011 14:13

You are all freaking weird with your violet stuff! That said, I may not like the flavour but I am in the middle of (well I'm just feeding the baby to sleep) painting my downstairs toilet violet. You are all going to love it! Pics tomorrow when it's done.

DillyTante · 03/11/2011 14:15

Oh and Shirley, I just nearly cried at that link. I loooove Bounty! A taste of paradise indeed. I love that website so much.

SallyDon · 03/11/2011 14:18

Just posted about feeling stuck in the middle of National Adoption Week. Is it ever ok to voice concerns about something so obviously good?

www.sallydonovan.net/2011/11/03/feeling-stuck-in-the-middle-of-national-adoption-week/

Anything tasting of perfume is the devil's food.

Just going out now to plant garlic (and take cover).

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 16:03

Hahaha Dilly! That site is completely amazing, have you seen the giant cream egg? Shock

Sally - FOODWRONG.

PetiteRaleuse · 03/11/2011 16:15

A very soppy one based on thus week's Britmums prompt

JoanneMallon · 03/11/2011 17:13

I went to the Mumsnet awards last night, embarrassed myself and then blogged about it

MmeGuillotine · 03/11/2011 17:24

Shirley, I love that website! It's fabulous. :)

GraceWhoIsTired · 03/11/2011 17:35

Hello again. I've been utterly knackered and shattered all week but have finally got another post up. It's all about how, although women are often advised to the contrary tandem breastfeeding can help relieve tiredness, and how breastfeeding soft toys may also provide additional benefits. And in case anyone mistakes me for a trained professional, I've provided all responsible linkages to the NCT, LLL and Kellymom.

Now, off to read what the rest of you have been posting Smile

MmeLindor. · 03/11/2011 21:50

Shirley
You witch. Another website where I can spend hours timewasting instead of doing something productive.

hahahaha Joanne, loved your blog post. And thanks for the namecheck, although I think it may have got me banned from posh "do"s at MNHQ
