Can you really NOT delete messages anymore?

I have just been going through some old messages on my FB and decided there is no need to keep them all but cannot find a way to delete them since the FB changes a few weeks back.

I have been on FB help but it shows how it used to be done before they changed it - not how to do it now.

I have asked on FB but no one seems to know and it is assumed you cannot delete any messages/chat anymore! Once it is there it is there for good it seems.

Surely not? Anyone in the know?

You can, but you have to go into each message, and the option to delete is in the actions menu at the top. bit of a pain if you have a lot to delete.
