Do your family and friends read your blog?

I'd really like to promote my blog to my friends on Facebook, but I'm a bit hesitant. My immediate family already read my blog and it does make me think twice about what I'm writing.

I'm a bit uncomfortable about people that vaguely know me knowing a lot more about my life than I do about theirs. Or perhaps meeting with friends who already know what I've been up to because they read about it on my blog. Also I think that people might make fun of me, or wonder how I have time to blog with two little ones, and perhaps think that I stick them in front of the TV so that I can sit on the computer.

What do you think?

Some of my friends and family have read my blog, mainly because I have linked to specific posts on FB. I don't know if they read regularly.

I don't worry about people not liking it, cause I know that not everyone likes blogs.

It is like being upset that your friend doesn't like Marmite - not everyone does. It doesn't mean she doesn't like you, just that she has different tastes than you.

mot of my family are dead

and my inlaws only read red top papers. ma n pa inlaw dont use tinternet.
and the rest aren't even on my 'real' custy custardo fb account nevermind my blog

Yes, most of my family (except my father who is the only technologically minded luddite I know) reads my blog.

I couldn't care less what they think about what I say or how I find the time. It isn't any of their business.

Some of them do. But I'm not blogging about my life, so I'm not laying myself bare iyswim.

I doubt it.

Everyone knows about my blog, but it really doesn't make for interesting reading unless you are interested in watching me progress with my craft and sewing and DIY projects.

I promote mine of FB but my FB friends are quite a small group and all are people I see regularly, I don't have 34593 friends or anything.

ALmost all of my site traffic comes from peple I don't know though.

I must admit I have let know only certain friends and family to read my blog. I don't advertise it all on my Facebook page, not sure why just getting a little fed up with Facebook world so I want to keep my blog separate.

Yes, mine do, but mine doesn't really focus on my daily life or doings, so it's not quite the same thing I suppose. Not as laid-bare.

I think if you are going to blog, you have to kind of be OK with the notion of people reading it, iyswim? Not meaning that in a nasty way.

Yup they do. Its more disconcerting when I meet new people (its a hobby orientated blog kinda) and they tell me all about me. I take it in good humour though.

Mine do, but I used to have an anonymous blog a long time ago, where I said what I liked and knew no one would even read it who I wouldn't want to IYSWIM

If you're worried that anyone you care about might be upset reading what you've written, then don't put it on the internet - it's as simple as that. Even if you don't promote it, you can't stop them coming across it.

Either be completely anonymous, or completely open - I don't really think there's a middle ground unless you're going to be anon but consider that anyone could read it at any time.

I don't have any family really but a few of my friends read it, I think. It's not a personal blog though so there's not really much there for them.

What started me thinking was when my Mum commented about my first more open blog posts. I'd written that I was finding my second baby easier than my first. I've never been shy about the fact that I found my first baby very difficult, and I wrote something like I was appreciating my second baby more.

What I meant was that as she is in all likelihood my last, I was enjoying the baby stage more than first time round knowing I'd probably be doing it again.

But my Mum suggested that my son will probably read the blog one day (I was intending to print it out at some point to keep to look back on) and he might be upset by reading that. I don't think he would, I've always known that I was a difficult baby!

Just be careful about how you write things so that they will be helpful to your children when they read them, not painful.

Depends on the blog. I have a blog for family and friends with photos of the kids etc as we live overseas - this is a great way to keep them up with our day to day life without all my Facebook friends seeing.

My second blog is about a house we are building in Thailand so it's mostly a way to establish interest in future holiday bookings - we can't advertise the place on holiday rental sites til it's built.

I would be very careful about advertising any ramblings or musings on Facebook......

I've thought about this too.
At the moment, my friends and family don't read/know about my blog. I did link it to FB at one point but then took it off as I didn't want people who I see every day knowing too much about me - I think it would limit my creativity!

I have a facebook page and if my friends or family wished to join in then I wouldnt have a problem with that :)
