Anyone?

I will start off with a link to my latest post, a part of the story of Beth (formerly known as Dora) who moved to Geneva to escape a relationship turned sour.

This is NOT me, by the way. I have drawn on my knowledge of Geneva but it is not an autobiograpy :)

Hi MmeGuillotine. I somehow missed the fact that you were a MNer - I like your blog, it was recommended on another thread here a while back and I found it that way. New design looks good; first impression is that it's much "cleaner" but still lush :) I just had a quick click, and will look properly later.

Completed a job today so might have some time to do a bit of reading & catching up on everyone's posts later.

I have no new post (tomorrow hopefully), but now in the wake of Mme's I want to mention that I too have completely changed the look of my blog. Felt the time had come to try & make it a bit more visually interesting.

MmeGuillotine · 04/08/2011 17:13

Hello there Dirty Martini! I think I know who you are on Twitter! :)

Oh yes, I've been a Mumsnetter for many years but am a bit of a milquetoast scaredy cat so don't muck in very often. :)

Thanks for the comment about my blog - I am so in love with its new look and think it is so much better than the old one, which was a bit much really! I love your blog's new look - it's very slick and professional looking!

stitchthis · 04/08/2011 19:53

onwards just a quickie

Tee2072 · 04/08/2011 19:56

Just marking my place again. My mom left this morning after 12 days of spoiling my son rotten!

I'll catch up soon!

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 20:21

stitchthis, that wool is pretty. I have some Debbie Bliss wool in a bag in a drawer I have not opened in 18 months and the colours are so lovely. I think that's what we got for Edgar's blanket too, wasn't it? And also: I am sorry to hear that you have someone close to you who's so ill. Hope things will be ... well, no worse than they need to be :(

Enjoyed the CampBestival post, MmeG. Your kids are so cute - I love the idea of the cosy trolley!

MmeL: good to see you bigging up the homeland Grin

GentleOtter, I have some info to send you via PM and will do so soon... just trying to get it organized into a message that makes logical sense!

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 20:46

Ah. Right, started catching up a bit, and have left some comments here and there.

Dirty - I like your new look! (can you slow your slideshow post thing at the top down at all though? I goes quite quickly so I didn't get a chance to absorb the info and decide when to clickity click!)

I've got the post holiday blues

MMe - LOVED the photos on your latest blog, especially the one of the harbour (that one would look lovely framed on a plain wall - really gorgeous)

GentleOtter - Shock at your latest post and the Death by Cigarette narrowly avoided!

Butterfly - I loved your photo's of blackpool beach as well.

I am finding a real love of photography while doing this blog and am now desperate for a camera which is a little better than a point and shoot. My dad was a big amateur photography lover and I have his old cameras (willed to me) and I'm starting to think seriously about starting a new hobby.

I could do an evening class and invest in a good digital camera and always learn how to use Dad's old ones too. So, after feeling a bit low for ages a little while, I'm thinking about looking forward and starting something new.

Uh, sorry about the essay!

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:12

Yes yes re slowing it down. I have been meaning to do that actually, glad you mentioned it.

Are you coming in on the plan to kill GO's landlord and cleverly disinherit his aristocratic grandchild via complex Hitchcockian plotting, leaving the estate to GO's tiny feral wuffler instead?

Sorry to hear you have been low. Do the photography, do it do it. I was just thinking today about how amazing it must be to know how to take wonderful photos. Did you see this blog on FreshlyPressed recently? I couldn't stop staring at the photos; they sort of transported me. I wouldn't have the first idea how to do that.

Off to read your post.

PS DS no longer wants a Cars cake. His decision but I am pleased. I think I can make a nicer one (as it can be non-Cars) than the Tesco one he briefly coveted. Also, Cars party stuff does not really make my heart soar; I feel we now have options.

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:19

Shirley, why do your tweets as shown down one side of your blog all end in .wibble? Like this:

@dickiedaviseyes He is damaged (mentally).wibble

Bloody Cat is driving me crazy with his HOWLING.wibble

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream (Cupcakes): t.co/TWnb7l7.wibble

It is making me laugh but I don't think it's how you actually wrote them ... do you have a wibbling feature embedded into your Twitter feed somehow? I am mystified and intrigued. In a good, amused way (lest you think this is stealth criticism).

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 21:21

Haha! Yes it is deliberate.

It's one of those things that make me laugh - (I am aware of how weird this makes me) I think I put it in as some sort of option when I enabled the twitter feed. It was an accidental thing and then I just and left it there...

GentleOtter · 04/08/2011 21:23

cackle

Glorious 12th coming up which is a bit grim but all the aristos will be together.

I am off outside again but will be back later. (escapee bullock out again)

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 21:27

Oh! Right hang on...

Just clicked on that blog and it is so dark and windswept and amazing...I am also deeply into this blog

I'm OK, just been a bit negative and miserable and fucking sad for a whle - it's not like me TBH and I'm now on a "GRIP UP YOU FUCKING PANSY!" train of thought.

Great that the cars thing has gone by the wayside - when's his birthday? I have some terrific ideas for cakes, all you got to do is ask! Smile

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:28
Grin

Sliding post feature has been slowed down by half again. Better? Also fixed an image that was fine earlier but had mysteriously turned into an empty box [puzzled]

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:28

ooh, xpost. Birthday is a week on Sunday. He will be 4

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:31

That blog is also amazing.

It reminds me of that doc that was on tv a while back about Detroit, which is basically a ghost city now ... anyone see that? Used to be stuffed with enormous grand hotels and mansions, mainly now derelict with many curious artefacts lying about. And people living in the shadows taking drugs/doing art on the walls/growing veg/whatever.

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 21:46

That is much better DM.

I didn't see that doc, sounds fascinating though. I loved the pic on the tokyotimes one of the chair sitting in the moss. It's kind of creepy though?

Four? Oh WOW! One of the best ages for parties. Olly is 11 the day before! Eek.

You could do a nice pirate cake at four - or a dinosaur one? Or an anythinghe's interestedin one by making a normal sponge, icing it and sticking those lollies you can get from M&S in the top - Jelly ones work better than chocolate wrapped ones.

I made a very successful Halloween cake once using those jelly lollies thanks to Nigella Lawson.

stitchthis · 04/08/2011 21:54

I saw that doc Dirty - the high school was chilling.
The wool is Debbie Bliss Angel - v fluffy...thanks btw
Thanks for comment too Shirley
Off to catch up ...

bullet234 · 04/08/2011 21:55

I've updated mine today, but given I've already linked to it on another thread, I'll just say that the link is probably a couple of pages back on this thread.

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 21:57

Hmm, dinosaur one might be good. I am making dinosaur crayons to give out in party bags, using one of those novelty silicone ice cube moulds.

He is not dinosaur-mad, but does like them. I couldn't find a lot of options for affordable shaped moulds that would be comfortable as crayons, so I went for the dinos and some hearts and stars (which we already had in cupboard). Inspired by yet another FP blog spot, actually.

I'm so sorry. I am turning this into a chat thread again. We should resurrect the bloggers' chat thread. Sorry, everyone, I will stop hijacking now Blush

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 21:58

Oh shit yeah - the CHLOGGING thread!

It died a shallow death. Let's bump

Tee2072 · 04/08/2011 22:49

As in Detroit Michigan? Because there is still a population of over 700k in Detroit Michigan so not exactly a ghost town! Not sure what that doc was showing!!!

DirtyMartini · 04/08/2011 23:08

Tee, it was this one:

Requiem for Detroit

There are lots of derelict areas that were formerly very prosperous, the heart of the automotive industry in the early 20thC. But yes, you're quite right that there are still a lot of people living in Detroit. The derelict ghosty bits are definitely there in large quantities though! And there is a dearth of public services because the city has no money so there are big areas that are kind of lawless. Apparently.

It's really interesting.

DirtyMartini · 05/08/2011 12:02

New post here, about Augusta's arrival in America and the difficulties encountered by women and girls coming through immigration

MmeGuillotine · 05/08/2011 14:53

Today's post is another one in which I come clean about being a Harry Potter fan after MANY years of insisting that I would never ever read one.

Tee2072 · 05/08/2011 15:36

Here's mine about not feeling like a mummy and feeling like a mummy all in one.

bullet234 · 05/08/2011 15:38

That was a very thought provoking blog post Tee2072.
