Child wandering out of shop

This morning I was going into Greggs, there was a woman at the counter with a toddler and then there was another older lady leaving the shop as I was coming in. Outside the shop there's parking spaces at the side of one of the main roads. It's a tiny shop, so I had to step to the side for the lady to come out and the toddler wandered between us out of the shop door. The mother noticed him wandering and called after him but didn't follow him. The older lady stopped just outside the doorway to block his way and I was trying to coax him back inside, without actually grabbing him. The mother then came up behind me and brought him inside, the older lady left but the mother gave me a really strange look. So, did I do the right thing? I did feel quite interfering but I would never have forgiven myself if the child had run out in the road and been injured or killed, and the woman was in no hurry to catch him herself. He was probably about two years old.

maybe she didn't have her contact lenses in and couldn't see properly? Don't worry about it, if it really was a strange look then she has a big problem.

Yes, you did the right thing. Ignore the strange look - she might have had all sorts of things on her mind.

Ah okay good. I don't have children of my own so I wasn't sure if I'd done the wrong thing. Thanks :)
