Very sad Sad

I always thought she led such a charmed life. Poor girl. My heart goes out to them both. I do wonder what happened, though. In this case and others that come to mind. And not just because I am nosy. From what I understand of obstetrics, it is very often a case of incompetent cervix when one loses a baby at around the 5 month stage.

I hope they manage to find out the cause and have another baby soon.

Hi yes it is so sad. I lost 2 babies; 20 & 23 weeks. Both very different reasons. I was diagnosed with an infection, blood clotting problem and incompetent cervix. The baby I lost at 20 weeks was technically a miscarriage but she was alive when I arrived at hospital so it was also preterm labour. They just said they wouldn't help if she was born alive, it was horrific. I went on to have another baby after that and had many problems and was in/out of hospital but happily managed to carry to term.

There are many many reasons but it is pretty rare to lose one in the 2nd trimester. I was told it was about 3%. There is a pretty high risk of it happening again too (depending on the reason, I was told for me 25-50% chance of late loss up to term). Cervical problems are only one of many reasons. Sometimes there is bad news at a scan, blood clotting problems, a fall, infection etc.

Thinking of kelly and her partner at this terrible time.

I don't mind, anything to spread awareness! It was of the amniotic fluid. Technical term is chorioamnionitis and it can be the cause or consequence of things like incompetent cervix, premature labour etc. Many times you don't get an answer which actually came first eg ruptured membranes or infection for example. A very large number of late losses are for unknow reasons which must be very hard too. Hope Kelly gets some answers for her sad loss.
