Is Suri Cruise the most precocious, over indulged 5 yr old girl on the planet?

Well, she may very well be - at the moment.

I've a feeling she just might have to relinquish her crown when little Miss Posh and Becks arrives in a few months time though! Wink

I have a child the same age and find it sad that Suri doesn't hang around with a bunch of kids the same age as her. I suppose she's fine because she is loved etc, but both my kids love their friends (lots of them).

What ever anyone might think about the (reported) parenting of a child, exposing a small child in the tabloid press to all sorts of gossip and criticism , and picking apart the life and privacy of a small child on a parenting site is worse. IMO.

If it wasn't for the bloody helicopters they report on, the DM wouldn't be able to publish stupid non-news stories like this.

Disgusting misuse of everyone's intelligence.

I would carry my child if I was followed by the gutter press everywhere I went too. Must be quite scary for a small child. Lots of only children spend a great deal of time with adult company but I have also seen pics of her with other children. Maybe the shots of her looking like any other child having a childhood just don't reach the papers.

Lots of girls her age like playing with high heels and makeup and dressing up. Hold the front page. What a non story this is Hmm

My dd's do the same and sometimes I let them wear it out if they want. Suri's mum just has better quality handbags to play with than me. I think pointing it out & saying she's 'indulged' sounds like sour grapes wrt the fact that her parents have a few quid. Imo.

All we see of her are the public appearances, a 5min snapshot of her life. Who knows what fun she has out of the public eye? It seems she has 2 doting parents who like to involve their child in their life rather than leave her at home with the nanny, just to avoid the press.

I do find the Scientology belief that you should never say 'no' to a child somewhat disturbing though: Tom Cruise may make a joke about Suri telling him he shouldn't make her eat protein if all she wants to eat is sugar but it left me a bit Hmm. And to have her own PA at the age of 5 - not something lots of girls her age have.

It's the heels that worry me.

Why the heels? Why, why, why?

My DD the same age wears trainers or startrite shoes or lellykellies if we are being wild.

Why the hell do they even buy these for her?

So she's rich and is given everything her parents can afford to give her - don't we all indulge out children occasionally? So she has her father wrapped around her little finger - that's true for all the five year old girls I know. So she was poking at lipglosses in a shop - my 5 year old (born on the same day) pokes at everything all the time.

100 years ago, allowing a child to choose ben Ten party plates would have been considered damagingly indulgent - now it's normal, and surprise surprise, so are our children

She's treated this way because of a religion. It's not any different to little girls taking communion, or wearing traditional Muslim dress because Mummy does.

There are worse things you can do to a five year old.

To stretch a point, I know an 8 year old girl that is merely a poorer equivelent of Suri cruise - she's had heels, handbags, lipgloss and her parent's undivided attention since she was old enough to point a finger. If she doesn't fancy her dinner, she's made something else, to her choosing. She's a delight.

Love your definition of a religion Colditz [bugrin]. In that case, I am following the Santa religion, and shall start eating chocolate for breakfast.

I think she is quite sweet looking, she always looks lovely. Not sure what sort of lif she has though, or ho spoilt she is. I read somewhere that she is allowed to draw on the walls of her house as her parents won't tell her off. I read it, I was not witness to this, so who knows if it was made up or not.

It's a shame the public/press are so obsessed with her.

I let Ds choose what party he wanted when he was 5. In fact I have done every year he's had one (from for). We're CofE. We had meetings to discuss it too. Mind you I don't let him wear high heels or lipstick but he does choose his own clothes.

I'm always a little bit interested in Suri as she is the same age as my dd and that article has just proven my point about money not buying common sense!!! Poor kid in those shoes its a wonder she hasn't broken her ankle yet, no bedtime?!! WTF?!! Allowed to decide what she eats?!! Erm Hmm

I may be poor but I'm proud to say I am a better parent than those two crazy people!!! Grin

Religions worship a God, or something superhuman.

As far as the tax men are concerned in the US, Scientology is religion.

Don't like the shoes (not good for her growing feet), as for the clothes i think if i could afford designer clothes for my dd's i would dress them in it, i expect she's only dressed like this when they are out in public (probably runs around in Boden Baggies at home), i try and dress my girls nice when we go out.

I think all that 'allowing her to make her own decisions' about everything from what shoes she wears to when she goes to bed, to still having a dummy,

would be seen in a very different light if her mum was called Kerry-Lee and lived on an estate in Barkingside.
