RG's not quite 100% family man - apparently there were rumours of an affair in 2005.

sports.rightpundits.com/?p=5896

And he dumped his friend's sister to go out with the same friend's just split up ex - the woman who's now Giggsy's wife. Nice way to start a relationship - not!

teej · 16/04/2011 00:17

choux DP and I were discussing this this evening - was he indeed whiter than white or just clever at not getting caught, with good lawyers on retainer to help stop anything coming out? bit sad, I thought he was a decent sort in spite of playing for his club...

HOWEVER- sorry i'm not buying the sympathy for that Imogen - she has serious form in targeting this type of bloke

teej · 16/04/2011 00:20

LIZS i think we should care on two counts:

  1. if someone is playing the family man/decent sort and getting endorsement deals etc on that basis while being a shagabout- we have a right to know
  2. these superinjunctions are just WRONG in the UK and so we should do whatever is possible to stop them/ denigrate them
IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 16/04/2011 06:51

People in the know all saying RG

LIZS · 16/04/2011 10:49

teej, I agree about transparency. However these footballers, actors , politicians et al have an overinflated sense of their importance in society to consider it necessary to hush their behaviour up and, worse, that they deserve to be able to do so. The injunctions are to prevent others profiteering out of such misdemeanors, not to protect the innocent as they might have us believe. That damage is already done. Whatever happened to personal responsibilty and accountability Hmm

pawsnclaws · 16/04/2011 11:01

I've always liked RG as a player - he's pretty much the most unselfish team player I can think of. Digital Spy is suggesting someone else. One of the great shames about these superinjunctions is that you end up with all sorts of names being bandied about, some of whom may well be completely innocent - but it all gets lost in the intense internet speculation.

I think Hazel is right by the way, there are clearly all sorts of deals being done between PR agents and papers to portray certain people as moral (presumably the papers get something in return or have an ulterior motive) whereas others are portrayed as cheating scumbags. The two players said to be "disgusted" by Shane Mooney's antics last year were Leo Burnidand and Spike Mowen.

HazeltheMcWitch · 16/04/2011 17:01

ooh, RG not even on the bench today. And it's an FA Cup semi. And a derby. Hmm.

HazeltheMcWitch · 16/04/2011 17:01

Imagine the songs!

LouMacca · 17/04/2011 11:16

She says she met him in a London nightclub last Sept on a Saturday night. Man Utd did not play down south in September last year. I have heard from a journo friend that it is R.K.

Nancy66 · 17/04/2011 11:22

Def RG - have seen the injunction

LouMacca · 17/04/2011 11:24

Nancy66 - really??? Well I stand corrected - that is a shocker Shock

RK has also been at it, they have him and another woman on CCTV.

Nancy66 · 17/04/2011 11:28

not sure who RK is...

LouMacca · 17/04/2011 11:32

Salt of the earth....currently on loan at WH.

HazeltheMcWitch · 17/04/2011 13:30

Nancy66, RK has allegedly been quite KEEN on a lady. As in - there is goss there, but he is not the subject of this injunction. For as we have both been saying all along, it is indeed RG.

oohlaalaa · 18/04/2011 11:00

Told DH2B last week, that on mumsnet consensus was RG. He said it cant be as RG has been "in form" and apparently the first sign of an injunction is footballer "off form" or injured (too much time on his hands). He said SG has been off form recently.

geordieminx · 18/04/2011 11:23

RG wasn't even on bench this weekend.

pawsnclaws · 18/04/2011 11:32

... despite setting up a fabulous United goal during the week.

There was also a fawning piece about him in the Evening Standard this week - finest player of our time etc etc.

LouMacca · 18/04/2011 13:43

SG hasn't even been playing recently. He had an operation weeks ago (early March I think) and will take no further part in the season.

noddyholder · 18/04/2011 13:46

V unusual to not play RG with WR out too

LouMacca · 18/04/2011 14:09

Very noddy Makes no sense. Ferguson had already come out before the game to state there were no new injuries in the team and yet RG wasn't even on the bench..........

psiloveyou · 18/04/2011 17:51

We were on holiday when this came out. I told dh I would go on MN as soon as we got home to find out who it was Grin.
Dh is gutted he insists RG would never do this.

PlumBumMum · 18/04/2011 18:00

Ahh not RK or RG, is there any hope for a footballers wife?

Feenie · 18/04/2011 18:02

Not unusual when Giggs has been playing as many games as he has and is getting on a bit - he is 37, fgs. As brilliant as he was against Chelsea in the week, it isn't unusual to leave him out at the weekend at all.

Not that I think he wouldn't be involved with Imogen Thomas though - he started seeing his present wife whilst cheating on his girlfriend in secret, him, the ex gf and the Beckhams were all mates so there was a big hoo-hah when it came out that he'd been seeing someone else. It all came out because she got pregnant, as I recall. He used to be well known for a spot of dv with old girlfriends - an amazing footballer, but definitely not whiter than white.

noddyholder · 18/04/2011 18:42

It is unusual to leave him out when Rooney was out too

Feenie · 18/04/2011 18:54

It isn't, look back at his record this season - he can't play every game, and he is regularly rested like this; he was needed more for the Chelsea game only 4 days previously so Ferguson chose that game for him to play in over the FA cup semi-final. When Rooney was injured for a long period this season, Giggs was regularly given games off then.
