Not really a WWYD but wasn't sure where to post.

What do you do if you need things that belong to you that are in someone else's house and they won't let you come and get them?

Anyone know?

could someone else collect them

LIZS · 14/03/2011 18:15

Ask them to drop them off soemwhere else so you can collect?

Well the owner of the house doesn't know exactly where they are and I don't want her rooting through my personal stuff. I need to get in to the house to find them.

Need more info really....why won't they let you in? How long has the stuff been there? They could root through your stuff anyway if they have access to them.

It's my mother's home and my stuff has been there since I moved out in 1997!

Her house is in a real state and she's embarrassed for me.

Is your relationship so bad that she won't be persuaded? Could you offer to help her sort out the property?

Dancergirl · 14/03/2011 19:52

Relationship has been up and down over the years. I (and dh) have offered many, many times to help her but all offers are refused.

And no, she can't be persuaded - she's that sort of person!

Ah, it will be difficult then. If it is stuff you really need then you may have to ask her to locate it for you.

I'd be tempted to forget about some things I had not seen for years (though I do remember my mum keeping my O'/A' level certificates for about 20 years as I didn't need them until then!).

If she is really embarrassed about it all then it may be pointless trying to go down any legal route to retrieve your property. Do you have any other relatives/friends who are allowed to visit?
