Sounds about right - start an argument with a small girl and all logic flies out the window!

It never ceases to amaze me that DD is so bright academically, but I find myself having to explain really obvious day-to-day stuff very slooooowly and in words of one syllable.

Mind you, my mum still does that with me! Grin

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 10:09

Well we had a lie in til 6.50am woo hoo!! Sympathy all round for the early bird families.

Off to a 3yos party soon- and again - woo hoo!!

Did get to watch RH again though, twas the burning of Nottingham one today.

DumSpiroSpero · 20/03/2011 10:51

Oh dear, early start & kids birthday party - is it too early for a Wine Small?! At least I am having an otherwise peaceful day Grin

Commiserations to all your poor ladies being woken at the crack of dawn (ie anything before 8am). Have a consoling pre-prandial sherry. Wine

Having mulled it over with Bloke on the way home, I wouldn't exactly say that I enjoyed True Grit but I appreciated the scenery and the performances from Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld. The Coen brothers are always interesting, I think, and I did love Fargo (maybe because there was more humour in it). We saw a trailer for this film, which looks interesting. Next on my list is Black Swan, with my girlie friends. Or possibly Hidden tomorrow.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 20/03/2011 13:14

Hi all! Quick drop in to say hello.

SupermassiveLBD · 20/03/2011 17:19

Hello ladies, hope you are all having a good relaxing Sunday.

Maybe I'll catch you later...

::Sits alone on the Chesterfield, admiring the curtains and wondering whether anyone would care to join her for a cup of tea::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/03/2011 17:24

Gah! Missed Massive by seconds.

I hope, Massive, that the house guests are behaving as you would want them to. Ahem.

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 17:47

Well, I survived the party even with the lack of Wine, and a visit to GP, back now with fish fingers in the oven and all is well in the Small household. For now.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/03/2011 18:09

Hello, Small. Is that GP as in grandparents (do your boys have a full complement of GPs, by the way?) or GP as in trained medical professional?

The sun is slowly sinking under the yardarm, so shall we open the Wine?

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 18:52

Grandparent, not a full suite though, my dad died about 3 years ago. The ILs are fully intact though. I may have concocted an illness if the trained medic was available Grin.

what can I watch tonight now that Being Human is finished??

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/03/2011 19:07

Here. Wine Wine

Sorry to hear about your dad.

We have not found any regular Sunday night viewing since we lost interest in Desperate Housewives. We watched BH much more regularly when it was on a weekday - Sundays always seem to have more distractions.

::Fills Small's and own glass with Wine::

::Worries that the good doctor may need to be summoned to deal with cases of alcohol poisoning::

PassTheTwiglets · 20/03/2011 19:20

Small, so sorry about your Dad - how are you doing?

Sunday night TV - you can watch Brian Cox now! Maud, I would love to watch Desperate Housewives still but DrTwiglets got bored with it, then I missed a season after I had DS and I just never got back into it.

Well we've been out for lunch and shared a bottle there (hwo dare Pizza Express salads have more calories than their pizzas?!) and we're just about to open a bottle here. Yuk though, I bought a moito in a can from M&S and it is vile. What a disappointment - I do love a mojito.

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 19:21

Yes I think we have certainly gone past the recommended weekly allowance of virtual Gizzy! Grin. Cheers.

I wonder if I can get iplayer working on the Wii? I still haven't caught up with the new series of Waking the Dead, whenever we go to watch it, it is inevitably a high traffic time on t'internet and because we live in Sticksville we have a about a 2kb broadband service = no hope of ever watching!

PassTheTwiglets · 20/03/2011 19:39

One can get iPlayer on the Wii?! Goodness, these newfangled things... whatever next?!

You know what I was reminded of the other day - remember that Russian photoshoot that Phoenix linked us too a while back? The one where he wore a red cardi and looked like Perry Como unbeliveably sexy?

Preeeeeetty

PassTheTwiglets · 20/03/2011 19:40

For reference, Perry Como - see what I mean? :)

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 19:50

Oh dear that's a rather unfortunate comparison Grin!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/03/2011 19:56

Val Doonican?

Twiggy, darling, buying one's cocktail ready made in a can is never going to work, is it, sweeetie?

::wonders whether the first Academy conference should be held in the cocktail bar at the Savoy::

DumSpiroSpero · 20/03/2011 20:15

:wonders whether the first Academy conference should be held in the cocktail bar at the Savoy

Shouldn't that be Claridges, honey? Either way I'd definitely be up for it Grin

Sorry to hear about your dad, Small. Is your mum nearby?

Feel your pain re in-laws. Last time I came up with an excuse to avoid a gathering round there I had MIL on the phone screaming at me like a banshee for about quarter of an hour, so I tend to go the path of least resistance these days. So long as you're physically present you can generally get away with sitting in a corner ignoring & being ignored Confused

We have Top Gear on at the mo. Must admit I don't mind it, especially when they do specials competing against each other abroad in terrible cats! I must admit a bit of a soft spot for James May, too.Blush

DumSpiroSpero · 20/03/2011 20:16

Terrible cars not cats - that would just be weird.

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 20:18

Val Doonican was more argyle sweater IIRC? Still, neither is a great choice!

DumSpiroSpero · 20/03/2011 20:23

unlike this Grin

TheSmallPrint · 20/03/2011 20:36

I though that was going to reveal Gizzy in a wooly jumper Grin.

Mums not far Spiro but she's not very mobile, actually Im really cross, the council have not renewed her blue badge as she is not blind and she 'can' walk. She has COPD and is on permanant O2 plus Cpap at night so yes of course she can walk for bloody miles no problem - moronic paper pushers. Sorry, I get so cross for her.

My in laws are actually alright to be fair but they do live oop north so we don't have many gatherings to attend.

DumSpiroSpero · 20/03/2011 20:49

That's awful, Small, am Angry on your behalf. What's really irritating is the discrepancy between councils too. My mum also has a blue badge as she suffers from a heart condition - she gets the odd Hmm look when she uses it as obviously people can't see her problem.

Can you appeal? It sounds ridiculous that they won't renew it?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/03/2011 20:49

Yes, I think Mr Doonican was more of the patterned v-neck but nevertheless there is something about that red sweater that brings him to mind.

Spiro - It could indeed be Claridges. I guess my first thought was the Savoy because, unlike Claridges, I have actually been there.

::don't get out much emoticon::

Small - That decision about the blue badge just sounds wrong. Have you contested it? I imagine you can kick butt be articulate when you need to, but you could take a friend along for moral support.
